For those that haven't picked up a copy of Dark souls 3 yet, Big W is currently selling the game for $39.
This is the cheapest I have seen it, with other stores still pricing around the $69 range.
I have called a store to confirm that the in store price is $39.

Great price but after Bloodborne my wife has banned me from this series :|

    • You should get Skyrim and Fallout instead then, see what she reckons to them.

She doesn't have a problem with them. It's the Souls-like temper tantrums she couldn't handle.

          YOU DIED

    • Did you smash your controllers or swear too much? :)

      • +1

Yes and yes. Plus I think she grew tired of my angry rants about farming and grinding.

        • I thought so. I was on the same boat!!!

Remember kids, the Xbone version of this comes with a copy of Dark Souls 1 for 360 (digital, and backwards compatible) at no extra cost.

I love the games that do this sort of thing, Just Cause, Dark Souls, Fallout, and so on. It's pushed me into grabbing the Xbox versions of a fair few games I'd have otherwise just grabbed on PS4.

Great price for a great game. Started the Dark Souls serie with that one, and it was tough. Prepare to die and praise the sun!

    • Steep learning curve but not too difficult after that. The greatest aspects of the game live in the shadow of its difficulty.

  • +1

check here to see which is the "better" version between PS4 and XB1 - http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-dark-s…

  • The original Dark Souls was most captivating. Unsure if 2 or 3 is better.

    Someone shed the light?

    • +5

If there was one thing in particular about this game that I would praise, it'd have to be THE SUN.

      • Git gud son

    • Neither 2 or 3 is quite like the first with its intricately interconnected world and how you have to earn the right to teleport at bonfires. That being said I think they're all great.

Dark Souls 2 plays almost identically to 1 with some changes to the stats you need. You have many paths to choose from but they rarely connect to each other.
If you're looking at 2 make sure you get the "Sins of the First Scholar" edition as it includes the DLC and some extra changes.

Dark Souls 3 plays a lot faster than 1 and is stunningly beautiful at times. It uses a different engine that encourages faster attacks and rolling a lot more, similar to Bloodborne. I'd say it is also the most linear of the 3.

      • Thanks for the quick summary. It helps.

I used to play heaps on Dark Souls 1….

    • I preferred 2. But that's only because as amazing as 3 was, the way they screwed up the poise stat was beginning to really annoy me after a while. (ie you have no poise so even wearing the top end armour will still interrupt your attacks from the shittiest starting area monsters).

    • Dark souls 1 is the best and also my favorite. 3 is better than 2 but 2 is good as well.

    • 1 was the best, but 3 is still very good. 2 is the weakest, but still a great game in its own right

Why does anyone shop at EB with prices like these?

Def working, last dozen games I bought all from BIGW.

    • I buy from EB but always price match. That way I have a week to return a game if I don't like it and I (usually) get a sealed copy untouched by grubby fingers.

    • Price match for carrots or use credit leftover from trading in

      • -1

And what exactly do carrots do for you?

    • Went to an EB shop and the staff refused to match the price and insisted the Big W price is for online only. Then I went to another EB shop and their "new" copy is opened with a barcode sticker on the game manual, which is hard to be removed. I'm going to Big W now.

  • Thanks OP. I love the Souls games and have been waiting for a decent price drop on this.

I was surprised to see the game has a reasonable manual. An appreciated rarity these days — even if it is kinda a glorified promotion for the Prima guide.

  • Just picked up a copy. Been waiting quite a long time for a price drop. Thanks OP! They have tons in stock.

  • I read that this only runs at 900p on the xbox one and then upscaled to 1080p. Does anyone know if this is still the case if played on the new xbox one s? I cant find any info on this

    • I never actually believed that people treated something trivial (in my opinion) like this as such a big consideration when purchasing a console game.

      Guess I was wrong.

For the record I believe the S will play all games at the same resolution

      • +1

Indeed. No difference between the consoles as the performance upgrade is negligible.

        • I have both consoles so might as go for the version that plays at full res

        • @Sammyboy: After watching some youtube videos, the ps4 visuals do seem superior (in particular the shadows). Keep in mind you get Dark Souls 1 Download code with the xbox version and not with the PS4 version. I have both consoles but picked it up for the xbox one for the extra code.

        • @undefined: i already have 1 on the 360. Might go ps4 then

        • @Sammyboy: Good call, although you can always sell it to bring the price down further. I have dark souls 1 and 2 on PC so will just give the code to a friend. Earn some Karma.

  • Great prices once again Big W leading the way with the tight arse gaming special. Of course bringing up the rear with have "Australia's leading games retailer" EB with the amazing price of $68. Not even close.

    • With a sticker price of $109! They price matched $39 for me no problems though.

      • +1

Wow that's crazy! No one else stickers games with those prices so it's so hard to believe it's RRP! At least they price matched, so many times have I been denied. The latest one doing the rounds is they will only go 20% below their shelf price and no lower. I'm like pffffffft how about you just be competitive if you want a sale.

        • Im beginning to really like you man :p

I tried to price match them at their Prahran store to a JB directly across the road, they rang that JB and they didn't have stock so no dice!

The prices they give you for trade ins are an absolute joke no matter which way you slice it, but it's made worse by the fact they are effectively selling used games as new with their return policy. F#$k them, I will not shop there.

        • @stonkered: There's no doubt about it, EB Games Australia sucks balls.

        • @High Score King:

          Biiig salty chocolate balls

        • @stonkered: Chef makes em, EB takes em.

  • If anyone is still interested in this, I picked it up today at the same price

  • Same here, just picked up it today for $39. Although BigW site already changed to the pre-sale price.
