Nintendo DS (for a 6 Year Old)

My son who is 6 has asked for a Nintendo DS for Christmas.

Do you think I should just buy a second hand one off gumtree or buy a new one ? He is good with technology, he uses ipad for school and home etc

Where would be the cheapest place to get one if brand new ?

  • Just wanted to check if you meant the 3DS, because AFAIK, they don't make DS anymore.

    • Haha well yeah I suppose a 3DS - I am not quite up with this all ! All he wants to do is play YoKai Watch lol :)

  • There is the 3DS, New Nintendo 3ds, New Nintendo 3DS XL and a 2DS.

2DS being the cheapest but on par cost wise with the 3DS.

    • I have the new 3DS XL, I wouldn't recommend it for kids. The 3D function messes with my eyes so much I don't even bother using it.

Only got it because it was the MH limited edition and I prefer the foldable device over the slab that is the 2DS.

I'd grab a 2DS, either second-hand from CEX or EB Games, or new from anywhere. It's about $150 new (with mario kart, or $170 with Pokemon preinstalled), or $100 second-hand. Great for a kid because there's no hinge to break.

Also better for the eyes, because (long exposure to) 3D isn't recommended for developing kids!

Cheapest option is waiting for 20% off sales at Target ebay.

or you could teach the kid Ozbargain lessons and say that the 3DS will get cheaper when the Switch gets launched next year.
