11 Hour Layover in Dubai Terminal 3

Hi,

On my return to Australia, I have a layover in Dubai from 23:30 to 10:45am. Had my layover been during the day I would have explored the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. Besides having a nice long shower and browsing is there anything else you can suggest? I'm in two minds about booking a hotel for just a few hours. Then again I am worried that I will fall asleep and miss my onward flight as well.

Thanks.

  • 11 hours is a lot of time to do stuff. Post your question on Trip Advisor.

The time of day is unfortunate - at day time I'd also take the opportunity do a bit of a whirlwind trip around.

However, that late at night and for that long, I think the long trip much more bearable to do the whole go to a proper hotel, put your feet up in your own room, shower, sleep, set 2 alarms for the right timezone (or 1 plus a wakeup call), get changed and back refreshed for the next flight. I've done layovers of 6 hours or so before, and ended up kicking myself I didn't get a hotel to sleep even if just for 2-3 hours of it because time basically stands still and you just get more tired sitting around wondering what to do.

There are plenty of hotels close to the airport.

Otherwise, GoSleep sleeping pods or Snoozecube is in the terminals - I don't sleep well on planes, so I'd sleep for a while.

  • I have a 3 hr layover during the day in a couple of weeks time, terminal 3 too.
Not sure what to do tbh. Any good lounges to buy access to?

check out this airport travellers complete user guide.

"The cool, modern architecture, and 24/7 shops and eateries will keep you entertained for a long time"

basically the lonely planet for airports.

explains everything such as how to get wifi, where to find showers, best places for sleeping, etc etc etc

    who are you flying with?

    • Legend! That'll be a great read, thanks.

    • Emirates :). The guide is a huge helpful, thanks.

Are you flying emirates? If yes, they give complimentary hotel and food vouchers if stopover is more than 8 hours.

    • Thanks. I had this checked but apparently I don't qualify for the hotel stay because there were shorter connections available via other routes :(. Pity about that.

    • I've been given food vouchers even when my stay was only 5 hours.

      • Thanks, I am back from my trip. It turns out that Emirates have stopped food vouchers and they now charge for seat bookings prior to 48 hours before departure. I was not impressed with the airline staff on the ground.

  • If you want to catch some sleep, after you exit the plane, dont go downstairs in the building as all the seats at the ground floor have arm rests, whereas the upper lever has benches that you can use. Once you go downstairs , you are not allowed to go back up.
