    ALWAYS STOCK 9V in house!

      Or else you'll be deadalready?

      • +2

Because smoke alarm batteries typically fail in the middle of the night due to the temperature drop pushing them under the voltage baseline.

        • In which case, you simply REMOVE the old battery and it will stop beeping.

        • +1

@llama: Not mains-backed smoke alarms, which are required in houses now.

Yes, mains-powered smoke alarms - you deal with it the exact same way…

Just unlatch, swing it down, remove the 9V battery, and leave it OPEN. It cannot beep if it doesn't have the battery in it and it isn't connected to mains… in fact, without the battery most of then won't allow you to close them anyway.

        • @llama: Then the other smoke alarms in the house start beeping too. I suppose you could disconnect them all but that's even more effort.

        • @coxymla:

That does not sound correct at all. My comments are based on normal mains powered smoke alarm that can be linked so that they all go off at once - my own house is sent up that way.

However the other alarms in the house cannot know that one has been removed or even how many are attached. They are not addressable, so in order to make others beep it would need to be connected to power (latched closed). It would be absolutely useless if all alarms beep like you sat, either in response to a failing battery or if ane was faulty or deliberately disconnected.

The exception to this would be alarms that are linked into the burglar alarm system, in which case you need to get it reprogrammed so that it acts more logically. The kind of behaviour that you are explaining is the exact reason that people disconnect alarms and chuck them in rhe garden… It's not good practice to make them annoying like that.

        • @llama: Mine are recentish (5yo house) and the base is hardwired into power and cannot be turned off. The base has a transformer to power the alarm part and is connected to the other bases somehow. The alarm part slides onto and off the base and holds the battery.

So if you unplug one then the others can know. Yes it's annoying. Personally I don't really care for smoke alarms but I guess it's better to have them.

    • lol i remember that deal! i still have like 1 or 2 from that deal. but mine came in a box lol

  • postage makes this deal no good for me and no in store pick up for 100 Miles.. LOL

  • i bought the AAA -they come packaged in slots of 2 within the box. when i picked mine up, 2 was already melted, 3 of them did not have much battery left and only on the third set worked properly. so pretty low quality even through best before 06-2019
