Lawn Mowing/Garden Maintenance Rates

I'm just wondering if anyone has experience on how lawn mowing/weed poisoning is charged. I had a lawn mower guy come every fortnight to do my lawns and poison the weeds. He charged me $55 per fortnight. The job he did was okay, until I was at home one day and saw that the 2 guys who were there just whippersnipped the lawns. They were there for 8 minutes. On that basis, the hourly rate was approx $165, if my calculations are correct.

Then just recently I got a different guy to do a clean up. He & a mate were there for 3 hours. Even if they went twice to the tip (which is 5 minutes away), let's say 4 hours each, which makes it a total of 8 hours. They charged me $1150. This works out at about $144 per hour. Am I just being ripped off, or is this how it is? Our company employs electricians and they are charged out at $120 per hour, so it seems wrong that I'm being charged between $140-$165 per hour for lawn mowing.

      They were there for 3 hours! The job was terrible. He pressured me for the money. I'm not at all happy. Won't be using him again either.

    i pay total $35 Cash monthly for lawn mowing/weed poisoning/Garden maintenance. And he spends almost 2-3 hours at that time .

    the first guy was probably charging a call out fee.
    mum gets her mows lawned - usually when the neighbour gets theirs done.
    an ongoing agreement she doesn't pay a call out fee and they do her lawns after at the hourly rate.

    Anyone else have any experience with this? I just want to know what they base their prices on, as if it's an hourly rate, it's exorbitant.

      Lol, my parents get theirs done every 2 weeks $100 to maintain 1 and 1/4 acres.

      My advice is seek out the small company's or people who do it for cash on the dole lol.

      I know a guy on the dole who does pensioners gardens for $20 each between fruit picking seasons (approx 2 months). He figures it pays his travel Nd fuel and saves them 25 bucks from the big company's.
