So two weeks ago I found out that my mother had bought a $700 camera from camerasky.com.au with direct deposit. Thanks to my ozbargain comrades, I was well aware of their shady practices and tried to call our bank to stop the transfer but it was too late. We called them the day after to have our money refunded. After hours of arguing with them, "processed the refund"and it would take 3-5 days. Well I'm sure you know how the rest goes…Excuses about upgrading their banking systems, finance department hasn't approved etc etc.
I have contacted the department of fair trading NSW who are very familiar with these guys (https://www.finance.nsw.gov.au/about-us/media-releases/publiā¦). I have also messaged Adwords, to see if they would remove their ads (misleading stating they are australian and that they provide australian warranty).
At this point, I'm trying to stop other Australians for falling for this scam. I'm not sure if its worthwhile to ask google to tag them with the "phishing/malware" warning when people click on their website? Does anyone else have any other suggestions?
I'm not sure there's any telling a certain generation. I spent 20 hours telling my father not to fall for the Windows email telephone scam, I said Microsoft do not have your number but he fell for the first call he got and handed over credit card details to the scam.
The moral is spend your sanity and energy earning money to pay for your parent's online mistakes :p There is no prevention.
