Google Play Credit for Data Pass Prepaid Offer

Hi guys,

I have a Telstra SIM on the Data pass plan, and have used it for Google Play credit in the past. If I buy a recharge voucher, can this be used as Play credit? I know new SIMs can't be activated on a Google Play-able plan anymore, but does that apply to recharges too?
