Good value if you're looking for UPS for your NAS/Microserver/Desktop PC. For example the VALUE600EI is usually around $90-100, now it's only $69, and includes free Belkin 6 way Power Board (2m) and free Belkin PureAV Surge Cube.

Shipping is $11.70 for me to Sydney.

Depending on shipping there are some good deals there.

I should get one for my NAS (DS415+), but have no clue on what to look for in a UPS. What are the differences, what do you get for spending more?

    • More battery capacity and more ports, and probably some fancier features like LCD status screen. Regardless I think they all can shutdown the NAS gracefully during power outage.

      • +1

Only ones that are supported by the OS of the NAS. There's a list of supported UPS's for Synology, there's also a wiki that someone made of user reports. Generally though, CyberPower are well supported.

        • Thanks, I forgot I had looked at that - https://www.synology.com/en-global/compatibility
VALUE600EI not appearing, will have a bit more of a look into it.

        • +1

@snuke: Not sure if Synology uses NUT(Network UPS Tools), but the Value 600E has some support as found on http://networkupstools.org/stable-hcl.html.
Although NUT seems to be more commonly used more by those running microservers or diy servers.

        • +1

          @snuke: It's confirmed to work with DS1512+ here http://whrl.pl/Rdv8Vm.
Also some people reportedly using the LCD version 600EILCD successfully in Amazon UK.

So not 100% guaranteed but I can't see why it won't work on newer Synology models.

        • +1

@snuke: I have the 600EI and can confirm it works on my HP N54L running XPenology (basically it's running Synology DSM but not on their hardware).

        • @snuke: Received the VALUE 600EI today and installed. It's detected by the DSM properly. Haven't tried turning the power off but I guess it should be fine.

      • @tukanglistrik are you by any chance an electrical engineer? Or perhaps anyone else can answer?

Just wondering on whether the "simulated sine wave" vs the "pure sine wave" output makes any difference to connected devices in the long run?

        • No idea sorry :)

        • +1

Yeah I was looking into this as well.

Pure sine wave UPS is only required if you're using sensitive equipment that requires it (such as old audio amplifiers). Most well-regulated and filtered PSU's should be able to cope with simulated sine wave. See http://superuser.com/a/912689

However, pure sine wave UPS batteries last longer than simulated ones. And the cheapest entry-level UPS's are likely to output a stepped sine wave which may cause PSU's (with active-PFC) to power cycle if the UPS switches to battery power. Read the first post here

Anyone with experience of this wrt to the 600EI-AU?

        • @bogan: Interesting read, you have obviously done more research than I have…

  • Ordered. Thanks OP.

  • yeah , ordered the $69.
    hurr.

  • What is this brand like? I have a Belkin UPS that has just died and need a replacement.

    • I've been using this brand for more than a year for my nbn box, haven't had any issue so far.

      • @Jrimbo, how often do you need to run a self test and which model did you go for? Thanks.

        • I have the CyberPower Value SOHO UPS 600VA/360W, bought them (yes, them, I have 2) from shoppingexpress last year for $109 i think. Let me try to recall, got my nbn connected in July last year, so this UPS would have come few days after that.
This sale is $69, so it's a good buy. 2 years warranty

Never ran a self test at all, as my nbn box is in the garage, location is not easy to reach, must use ladder, so I can't be bothered.
The other one is sitting behind the tv console, also hard to reach due to my 2 young kids.

Had few power outage since then which lasted for few minutes, but internet kept working thanks to this UPS.

  • I'd imagine that you would have the following setup for the UPS:
power outlet => belkin powerboard => UPS => NAS
    Or is this setup redundant?

    • +3

Yeah not sure that UPS's play nice with other power boards, at least not ones that have their own protection.

    • +1

Unless you need more outlets, you don't need the powerboard here. All UPS's have surge protection built in.

  • Can any one advice on the replacement battery for those? eg, CyberPower BR1200ELCD. Can it take the easily available 12v sealed batteries as replacement or I'll have to buy specific replacement batteries from CyberPower?

    • I recently replaced the battery(s) one of those, got the replacements from my local battery store and I think they were a bit higher rated too. Cost about $70 from memory.

  • I wish they would do ddr3 8gig sticks for 50 posted again… Sigh.

  • where does it say "Belkin 6 way Power Board (2m) and free Belkin PureAV Surge Cube"?

  • +1

How can I work out how long one of these will last as I want to connect it to my cctv?

Specifications show power consumption to be 10w without harddrive

  • Can these UPS work to convert Australian 240V 50Hz for an appliance (with a motor) that requires 220v 60Hz (750W)? If not what can I use instead?

  • which UPS should I get if my pc runs 850W PSU ? and to protect pc and monitor ?

  • Not sure what happened; I was looking at getting one of the Value SOHO's, next thing you know, I'm adding the 1500VA/900W PFC Sinewave into my cart XD. Damn you OzBargain, sometimes I wonder if you're actually saving me any money. At least I didn't buy the Professional Tower 1000VA/900W? That was really tempting… :|

    • at least you get a better looking sine wave output. ^‿^
