This works brilliantly - I had an old 286 with 4MB of RAM and it now runs faster than my new i5 system.

      nope

My job is basically glorified friend-who-knows-stuff-about-computers.

RAM optimisers, registry defraggers, driver tweakers, and super security secret awesome security analyzers are incredibly common. And on the systems that have several of them, it's common to have annoying and impossible to fix without reinstall software issues.

This type of stuff can do more harm than good, I'd stick to Pirisoft's CCleaner (if anything - I don't use it on my own system). It will clean out temporary used files, MRU (most recently used), etc. Even its registry cleaner is known to cause problems with programs (Auto CAD for one) - which is why it suggests you back everything up. Even Vista/7 defrag automatically.

Windows Superfetch caches processes in memory to help you, flushing this cache will just cause frequently accessed programs to load slower. Of course it (Superfetch) frees the cache when memory needs to be addressed by other programs.

There's no point in having 4GB of RAM and utilising just 600MB of it. Rarely will you find yourself needing 'SpeedUpMyPc 2010'.

Put simply - Windows XP/Vista/7 are more than capable of managing system upkeep on their own.

haha i love this stuff, its the type of shit that keeps me employed…everyone download it LOL

  • System Care Professional seems to work?

  • yeah.. system care profession which was available for free a short while ago, has been working well for me..

  • Speed Up My PC is not too bad compared to others.

It mostly contains UI tweaks so that menus pop faster, My Computer opens quicker because network drive searching is disabled by default, old file name compatibility disabled, etc.

I've used it a few times and whilst I would never pay for it, it is not harmful.

Obviously any TSR tweaks should be avoided, as the OS is better equipped to manage these resources.

    • I never thought of that….

Speed a computer up by tweaking how fast menu delays are. Good one.

Should there also be software that installs as a trial that does the opposite and increases the delay? then you can see the difference.

would this software speed up a freshly installed pc? (if by the way of above, yes)

      • It's a lazy and foolproof way of applying tried and tested registry hacks :)

If your running Win7 I'd give it a miss.
