  • Anyone know why these switches are getting discounted? Is there a new model coming out?

    • Not sure. CES is less than 2 months away, so perhaps they are doing a reveal on the new range.

In 2015 they announced a whole sag of products as part of the WeMo link range, but they never made it to market.
They might be gearing up to take another run at the Smart Home category.

  • This is all very cool but I can't think of a situation where I would want to turn on a light switch remotely.

    • +1

No one remotely turns on a single light. We have some lights are on schedules. Some lights on motion sensors. Then we can turn off all lights by yelling at Alexa when we walk out the door.

    • When on the couch?

  • +1

I keep my lights on all day to scare thieves :P

    • I'm pretty sure that's vampires, not thieves.

  • Same pricing as the Belkin store online. http://www.belkin.com/au/F7C030-Belkin/p/P-F7C030/

    • +1

Bunnings is cheaper by 95c, 95c and $1.05 respectively. Where's the ozbargain spirit? :P

      • +2

Postage kills it too i suppose.

        • Yeah didn't even think of that. Damn, $6.99 to deliver from Belkin!

    • It doesn't make sense the the Wemo Switch is $69.95, but the Wemo Switch + Motion is $49.95.
      http://www.belkin.com/au/Products/home-automation/c/wemo-hom…

      • The Switch + Motion is sold out though

        • Switch & Motion is discontinued I believe.

Was a good product, but a little flawed and theses days the trend is for tiny, battery powered sensors that work with a hub, not chunky 240v ones that rely on wifi.

  • Can these work with LIFX? Or do they need their own hub/Smartthings?

    • The switches connect directly to wifi and don't need a hub, but the lightbulbs do need one. I'm fairly sure the lightbulbs work with Zigbee.

      • Cool. As im using LIFX, these dont need a hub either, so in theory these switches can control the lifx globes in a hub-less environment?

        • +1

The switches replace a normal light switch in the wall. They won't interact directly with your lifx globes any differently to what a normal light switch would; except that that light switch can be turned on and off remotely.

Everyone should note that the light switches need both positive and neutral wires running to the existing light switches, which isn't always the case. In my house, some were wired that way, some weren't. They are also meant to be installed by an electrician.

        • Ahh, thanks for the clarification. So these would do a 'hard' switch off, rather than usual way through the app. So i f i switched it off at the switch IFTTT would have a had time trying to switch it back on? Thanks again for your help.

@jackwoz: With LIFX, consider the new Logitech POP switches to control, though not sure if launched in AU yet

        • @mctubster: They seems a bit pricey at the moment. Ive purchased an echo dot, so im hoping this works in the interim until the prices become more reasonable.

        • @mctubster:

I just bought the Logitech POP starter pack from Amazon. Arrived in 6 days.
Pretty good product and the App is great.

Very easy to setup and you can group lights and switches simply… but it's still missing some basic functionality, such as timer / time delay.

eg. you can turn a light on/off, but you can't trigger it to turn on for 5 minutes.

I might explore IFTTT and see if there is a work around yet.

No word on AU launch from Logitech. they are still watching the market.

Why would you want to use a wifi light switch with a wifi light bulb together?
The whole point of the wifi light switch is to allow remote access to conventional bulbs.

      • Good point

      • Because a physical switch is still an ideal way of turning the lights on and off without having to use a phone

        • You can still turn lifx bulbs on and off with the wall switch.
The only advantage of putting a wemo light switch onto a smart bulb, would be in the case where someone turned the light off at the wall, and you then needed to turn it on again remotely.
          Just

        • exactly.I would like to use wall switches but also have the ability to do it from my phone (when in bed etc)

The Maker dropped like crazy. It was $149 at Bunnings a few weeks ago. I considered doing a price match because Harvey Norman had them for $99, which would have made it $89 at Bunnings. Wasn't entirely sure I cared that much about being able to check and control my garage door from anywhere, but for $69, I'm in.

    • When you say 'check' your garage door, how does the maker know that it opened… I assume you have to buy a magnetic sensor that plugs into the maker?

  • I bought the WeMo Insight Switch and it came up $88(?) so double check they have updated their computers. The checkout person had to manually type in the price.

    • You could have used the 110% price match policy in your favour

I had to return both of Belkin switches as they kept loosing the wireless connection even in well covered WiFi areas.
Please note the switches will require re-setup after power outages.

Bought a WeMo switch F7C027au from futu online in the last ebay tech sale.
It also kept loosing the wireless connection even in well covered WiFi areas.
Lucky you can return it, I guess futu won't take mine back.

      • If futu won't help you, go through Belkin who makes the wemo.

      • I bought them from Futu online too and have Belkin case numbers.
