Credit Card Surcharge - Singapore Airlines

New 1.35 percent surcharge to be introduced on outbound flight from Australia. How long before other full service airlines adopt this and it becomes common as the $2 ATM fee?

I don't want to alarm you, but if you go look at what Qantas and Jetstar have previously been charging you might have a conniption.

  • SQ were charging a "service fee" when paying by credit card (and I think it applied to debit cards as well), which was $25 per passenger for an overseas trip we took earlier this year. I wonder if this credit card surcharge is replacing that fee, or if it will be in addition to it? I would assume (hope) it's the latter.

  • Booked a flight earlier this year and paid with a credit card.Singapore airlines never charged me any service fee.

    • We found on this (and previous) e-ticket receipts, it was often lumped in with the other "fees and taxes" so wasn't particularly obvious.

      • You are right its listed as Surcharge/Payment Transaction Fee, unlike other airlines it wasn't added on at the end of the booking, it was included in the first quoted price, so i never noticed the surcharge until now when i looked at the cost breakdown on the receipt.

        • Yes, that's the one - rather a sneaky way of doing it.

  • Recently booked with Emirates and they've also introduced a credit card surcharge, but no surcharge if you pay via PayPal or Visa Checkout.
