240v Air Compressor to Clean Computer

Hello all.

I have just purchased a 240v Air Compressor:

I was wondering if I can clean out my computer's dust with this. It's original purpose was to inflate my car tyres but I have seen a lot of YouTube videos on people cleaning out their computers with them:

I have little idea on what PSI / Bar they should be at while operated on a computer so they aren't too powerful and blow off components and capacitors. The video above suggested 87 - 116 PSI (or 6-8 bar).

Kindest regards,
Jack.

Edit: Is there any burst gun attachment I can get for this fitting? http://i.imgur.com/m6QNZGX.jpg

Its massive overkill and likely to damage components.

Compressed air cans cost $17 each, pays itself off in about 6 uses. You can also change the PSI to a lower amount to reduce air flow.

  • I've used a 240V compressor to clean computers for years, never damaged anything. Just keep your distance with the nozzle, use burst sprays and stop the fans from spinning

    • This one didn't come with a burst spray head, is there an attachment I could find somewhere?

  • I use my 240V compressor almost exclusively for PC cleaning these days; battery tools have replaced most of my air tools.

Never once have I damaged anything - and they're about 20x more powerful than compressed air cans. It can't hurt to fit a moisture trap in-line to be safe, but I've never used one.

Even if you're buying it JUST for cleaning out PCs and other electronics (my ~7yo plasma gets a good cleanout every 6 months or so as it runs 4 fans) it's a very worthwhile investment!

Edit: I also use mine for laptop maintenance (you'd be amazed how much comes out of them!), clearing leaves out of engine bays and other areas crap gets into, vacuum cleaners, under shelves, and getting water out of places it shouldn't be. I love my compressor <3

    • Do you use a burst head attachment? Mine didn't come with one, and they should be suitable for any air compressor right?

      • They usually use nitto style connectors, they kinda clip together or screw. Go into to Supercheap and look in the air tool section. They will have an assortment of different connecters etc Can you disconnect the black hose where the orange one meets it? You could probably attach some connectors there if they don't fit on the black hose.

        • Here is the whole thing:

I can trade it back in tomorrow and get a really heavy duty looking one for an extra $50 that may last longer:

Edit: looks like this one might fit onto the brass fitting:

          @jackgoat:

Yeah I'm not sure about the mini compressor that you have, whether it can easily accept the nitto style connectors. Bring it in with you to Supercheap and ask the staff, they will check for you. If not then get that other compressor. The air gun you posted looks like it doesn't come with the fitting, so you'd have to buy it separately. The fitting are also at Supercheap, again ask the staff and they will help you get what you need. They have a cheaper brand than actual Nitto. Or you could buy this air gun from Bunnings which is cheaper ($9.95) but comes with the fitting - unless it's a hassle to get to Bunnings. They also have a cheaper gun but without the fitting - I'd just get the one with the fitting.

I use those air guns all the time for blowing dust off of everything. They are very handy.

          Good luck!

I use one like what you've posted below. You'll need to buy an assortment of nitto fittings and make sure all the tools are set up with the same size male/female connectors so you can swap between them!
