Compared to previous deals, this Thinkpad Yoga 460 ditches the discrete graphics that's eating away at your battery life. You can switch out the hard drive for an SSD which you've read all the reviews for and add some more RAM yourself at a better price. You probably won't notice the drop from i7 as they're all dual-core.

For those looking at something lighter and still want to scribble on your screen, the Thinkpad Yoga X1 is also on sale.

Thinkpad X1 Carbon ultrabook starts at $1599.

For those wanting to explore the extent of which you can upgrade parts yourself, there are hardware maintenance manuals published for each Thinkpad.

  • Some of the rrps look overblown but there's still some really good deals there.

  • The Yoga 460 is tempting … comes to $1,291 with 8GB memory and 256 SSD. But still has the WQHD display.
Lenovo had the Yoga 460 with the i7 processor, same display (WQHD), 8GB RAM, 256 SSD and fingerprint reader on special for $1,499 which finished yesterday. I was (am) hanging out for it to be offered with an FHD display, as the WQHD display seems to be overkill from what I have read.

    • I was tempted by the Yoga 460 for a long time also, but then I remembered the times with my clunky HP tx2500 and subsequently bought a Yoga X1 when it had its turn on special.

  • These are decent prices - making X1 Carbon appear expensive in contrast. But then I guess X1 build quality and portability stands out.
