Free Upsize from Medium to Large on Any Meal @ McDonald's [SA Only?]

680

Saw this advertised, free upsize from medium to large on any McDonald's meal. Available for a limited time only and after 1030am daily. Comments indicate you may need to mention it when ordering.

I believe it's usually $1 for medium to large upgrade.

If you are in SA, remember to download the Maccas Rewards app. They offered $5 off $10 vouchers in addition to other offers to use.

Update 7/11: Confirmed that it's SA only at this stage and runs until 15/11.

  • Definitely not $1 more, it's about 60-65c more, or at least in Brisbane CBD.

Are you sure that's not small to medium?

      • I admit that's just for a cheeseburger and quarter pounder meal. Is it different for other burgers. I never get small so i'm not sure what they cost.

In inner Sydney it's more than $1. Large meals cost over $10

Opp, if you can re word this so it sounds like you found a loophole more so than it being a promo you'll get triple the upvotes.

I prefer the term we like to use is hack.

I saw this the other day and asked for a large meal and was charged for a large meal, I think you must have to ask for the medium and then ask for the free upgrade which I think shouldn't be nessacary.

free quicker obesity. Go Go Go!!!

    • What is the least amount of calories/Kj available in a large meal?

I guess the fries and drink are all standard large size

So it will come down to the burger. I'm not a mcD person so I'm not sure

Tried in box hill, VIC. Didn't work.

I'll mark it as SA only until I can call them Monday (tried now but cust. service office is shut), sorry I figured it was Aus wide with the generic ad online.

      • Ta. I will remove the neg.

If you order a large meal at the self-serve touch screen kiosks, and then downgrade the drink to a medium, you get a the meal cheaper than a medium would normally be.

    E.g. Medium Big Mac meal = $9.30
Free upgrade to large = $9.30
    Medium Iced Tea = -$0.40
Big Mac, Large Fries and Medium Drink = $8.90

(can't remember if these are the exact prices but you get the idea)

    • I usually downsize to a small drink for $1.05 off. I paid $2.35 for a large hamburger meal (with small drink) with a $2 off coupon the other day, so it's around $4.35 I assume.

    • yep that's what I do too. Sometimes I would want more fries but I don't want more soft drink so I would downsize it back to a small or medium.

Sometimes my large chips is less than the size of a small. This really makes me upset. How can you possibly think you can half fill a large chips and expect the customer to be OK with it? Everyone should start posting photos of their large chips and shame these poorly run stores.

This happens when the don't use the "fries scoop" properly. They're supposed to insert the scoop all the way into the packet and then pull it out so the fries sits vertically. However, most staff I see drops the fries in without inserting the scoop, so some of the fries sit in a crisscrossed position blocking most of the space, so you get a very small amount of fries.
Yes, I do have too much time on my hand to observe while waiting in line. Maccas' service time is atrocious nowadays, even at drive-throughs.

This is quite hit and miss, I had it come up for one meal on the kiosk though the next day it didn't on another meal. It has to be 'McValue' meals, whatever that means.

Also, remember to downsize the drink for a good chunk of savings (~$1.05 from memory).

Another note, this stacks with other coupons (and in quite a neat way too). I was able to use a -$2 discount for a total cost of $2.35, despite a $5 minimum spend requirement. The coupon sees the full price of a large meal (~$6.05) and ignores that you're receiving the large meal for the price of a medium(-$0.65?) and that I downsized my drink to a small (-$1.05). Total actual spend (before discount): $4.35 (from memory).

    • Isn't McValue Meal a burger, fries and a drink?

      • I'm unsure in all honesty, it worked for me with a medium burger meal (upgraded to large free from deal), though no others have worked yet.
I asked staff and they were clueless about the promotion, only knowing it existed as the kiosk gave me a free upsize.

  • Dayum, this is what it's like to be hood rich yo.

  • Combine this with pokitpal 20% off and we have a winner :-P

    • Pokitpal is Vic only, this deal is SA

i used to like mcdonalds, now i have no appetite for it. unsure if im getting old or boring, or you just get sick of the same menu for most of your life. plus its fairly expensive, if you look at just the price of a burger alone, most are $6 - $8 for whats actually a tiny product, compared to burgers bought from stand alone shops.

  • I spoke to McDonald's Monday morning on the phone and got a general answer that they believed it was SA only, I got written confirmation just now:

At this point in time it is only available in South Australia from the 26/10/2016 to the 15/11/2016. Basically customers will be entitled to receive a free upsize with any Medium sized value meal that is purchased.
