  • Very good price for the porsche, think it's the lowest we've ever seen on here. Can get it down to $302.48 if you know a Woolworths employee with staff discount.

  • +1

Probably no GBHQ left in stock though… would love it for it $380

    • If there is still stock there won't be by tomorrow morning - I expect that by the end of today they will all be put on lay-by in anticipation of tomorrow.

      Sigh.

    • Got GBHQ for $380 at Big W Macquarie this morning.

Not displayed on shelf though. Need to check with staff and it came straight from the warehouse. Love it without the wire thingy strangling the box :)

  • Don't forget cash rewards wish gift cards. GBHQ was just advertised so stores "should" have stock.

    • Will add in

  • Not sure if it would work but maybe you could list the Millenium Falcon, price match against Kmart ($199) in store and get 20% off that? Not sure if they would honour it though.

  • Fingers crossed the 20% off gets applied to all sets, including the ones that are currently on sale. This happened last time, was able to grab a couple of Lego City vehicles for $16 (normally $28, on sale for $20)

    • Has anyone noticed if this is the case? e.g. advent calendars were on special days ago at 29 dollars (10 off the normal price) so have they reverted to 39 bucks then had 20% taken off that or did they have a further 20% knocked off the already discounted $29 ?

    • Said 20% off full priced sets on the sale poster when I checked in store today.

  • Bargain. Wonder which stores actually have stock though

  • Good price. But where has stock?? Or if they will discount the discounted price..

  • Is 20% off all Lego a good discount? Need to do the Christmas shopping and Lego for the kids sounds like a great idea this year!

    • +2

Big W typically sell their lego at around 10% less than RRP so if you can find some hard to find sets it's pretty good.

      • Thanks ajee123 - exactly what I wanted to know! I'm hoping 20% off will be applied to all Lego online then I can get everything done at one go, otherwise it'll be traipsing around to all the local BigW stores for me!

    • +2

absolutely, e.g. the creator set that is a big camper van and boat (with bonus builds as a big boat, house etc) is $120 in hobby shops and 100 at bigger department stores, currently 98 at Big W so will be ~80 bucks

    • Yes; it would be difficult to find a better offer than 20% off at BigW. Target have some good offers worthwhile watching out for also, although generally best prices at BigW. I have found the odd bargain at Myer too over the years so it pays to be vigilant. Although I check on eBay too i have found the sets to usually be dearer there.

If you are feeling generous the Lego Advent calendars build up the anticipation (and the Star Wars ones have become quite collectable too). They usually retail between $40-$50. BigW did advertise the Lego Friends (girls) for $29 about the 25th October; you may be lucky to find one. It did not seem the best this year though. I have been buying the Star Wars version for son since they first came out, and although he is an adult now, still looks forward to receiving a new one each year.

  • +3

At a certain point it's cheaper to just buy a real Porsche, surely?

  • +2

Thanks for info. Just one quick. My son is dying to buy 42055 and I can see it from Big W page.

So it is 20% off from 375 AUD (=300 AUD) from tomorrow? If so, I will run it ASAP tomorrow morning.

    • Yes

      • Thanks so much. Just called Top Ryde and they say no stock. :( Will try two other places.

    • Careful.. I read a review saying that it doesn't work too well. Reason is that it's so big that all the little tolerances add up and stop it from fitting together well enough to operate smoothly. Maybe that was just one reviewer but they said they reassembled it knowing the problem and it wasn't much better. Do some research.

I want it too but I'm fence sitting :)

  • Porsche show out of stock. i wonder if there will be any for sale at the discount price.

  • +1

Damn im living in the USA now but right now i wish i was back in AU.
We cant get this awesome set at this price over here!
The best we can find was a super limited amount from Walmart @ US$250
I'm about to buy now for US$320 (inc tax).

  • +1

    Whats happened to Lego prices.

Pretty sure I paid about $100 for this last Xmas
    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/lego-star-wars-millennium-fa…

    Now its $250????

    • +1

Lego has always been expensive. And that set has never been that cheap.

    • +1

Don't like to get personal :) but your memory has failed you. This set, and even the 7965 Millennium Falcon it replaced (essentially the same set with Force Awakens minfigs), has been at the $250 RRP mark since 2011.

That's not to say you paid that much, just that even a 20% discount would bring it to $199. Certainly not $100.

It was also in very short supply last Christmas so you were lucky to even get one!

Edit: ajee beat me to it in saying it's never been that cheap.

      • Damn.. You're probably right.. I did get my son a buy one get one 1/2 price from toys r us last year.

Looks like Santa is gonna be broke again.. :(

    • You may have bought another version of the Millenium Falcon. There have been quite a few versions of the Falcon as they are so very popular. I paid about $200 for sons set over ten years ago. If you do some research on the Millenium Falcon you will find that one of the larger earlier models is now incredibly valuable.

  • -1

Oh no I bought it from an eBay seller with C&C and C10AUZ to bring it down to $310 something. But then I gotta spend that $100 voucher on something else……

  • +1

This 500 grams of plastic costs more than half the cars I've owned.

    • +2

The box (with its contents) weighs over 5 kgs.

      • +1

It must be bigger than I assumed it is but still it's a lot of money.

  • +2

Well, at least I can say I can afford a Porsche!

  • this would be my first and probably the only Porsche i own for the rest of my life

  • +2

Where did you see the leaflet? I've rang bigw and they mentioned they don't know they will have such a sale, would you like to post a picture of the leaflet would e helpful.

    • +2
      • Thanks OP. So I assume this is in store only deal?

    • Yep, rang up Eastgardens and they told me they will be restocking Lego tonight for the sale that starts tomorrow

      • +2

Probably they would put some Porsches away and tell people all gone, hard to tell if they are honest or lying, good luck for everyone.

  • +2

this isn't the Lego i remember

    • People spend upwards of $6,000 on the UCS falcon

      • +1

They should reissue some of these rare sets. The collectors can say they have the original (they get to keep the inflated prices) while the new comers can get these sets at "affordable" prices.

Have been looking at the Lego Pirates of the Caribbean ships, can't even get used ones (100% completed ones) for sub $400 (I remember they were $179 when it came out). I'm just hoping they will release new pirate ships when the new movie comes out so it will be more affordable.

        • LEPIN perhaps?

        • @justin_tsoi: mate just built a lepin falcon and it's really impressive! 52 hours build time and 160usd.

        • @justin_tsoi:
          Built 2 - it's amazing

        • +4

          @justin_tsoi:
LEPIN: the leeches who feed on other people's creativity.
          http://www.brickfanatics.co.uk/an-open-letter-to-lepin-from-…

        • Tell me about it I'm just missing the imperial flagship now out of all the pirates ships and its about 1k

        • @Max Power: agreed. But not everyone can afford toys this expensive. Though at this level, I dare say it isn't a toy anymore lol

        • @Max Power: yeah that was an extra scummy move.

        • @justin_tsoi: buy creator line, every set has 3 lots of instructions as those particular pieces can do 3 different builds then sign up on Rebrickable and key in the codes for the sets you own and it will tell you all the sets you can make with your accumulated bricks and link you to instructions to print out.

fill this collection out with parts from Bricklink if need be and make savings by getting either used stuff or bricks people got in foreign lego shops where you can pay a flat fee to fill a cup with certain lego blocks

    • I thought that too but adjust for inflation, allow for legal costs for companies copying sets, allow for royalties with doctor who, disney, hobbit,LOTR,star wars etc
look back at old sets that had things like houses and you'll see the houses were (a lot of the time) just fascias essentially, hollow at the back with only half the roof tiles you'd expect.
Brick quality has improved and only a couple of the double digits of clone companies come within 80% of the quality of Lego and those charge similar costs to Lego anyway and do military sets which I personally find weird (making warfare cutish)

  • +1

So this is only for Lego on big w online?

    • No. I went into store today to buy the big arse excavator kit and it was marked down as 20% off instore as well. Online it said no delivery available on this kit. So, yes, I would try instore first.

      • Awesome thanks for that

  • Was just wondering if anyone has seen the Star Wars advent calendar in their local stores?? Doesn't appear to be on their website but they normally stock them from memory…

  • A couple of questions:

Does anyone know if the e-gift voucher can be stacked with the employee discount?

How is the e-giftcard used? Im guessing its sent as a code but where would it be inputted to?

    • Yes it can be used with emp discount. It is an option for the register operator to put in. You get sent a code. Takes a few hours.

      • If I were to purchase the sets online, would the giftcard code be typed into the coupons field?

  • +2

Thanks OP. I grabbed a $315 Cashrewards ecard for $299, so this would cost me $299+$3.40 = $302.40. I've got the Porsche on hold at the layby for me in the morning. Should go nicely with my two real Porsches.

    • The fruits of ozbargaining

    • Have done the same, might be worth a call to stores - managed to nab the last one at Mulgrave VIC

      • How long does the e-card take to get to you?

        • I'm in a similar situation as you - bought it around 9:30PM today and highly doubt we'll be getting it until tomorrow morning when the money clears our bank. I'm probably going to have to buy it without the giftcard and refund/rebuy for that extra saving.

        • Ordered it around 9pm last night but was emailed to me within a couple of hours! Very surprised considering it said could take up to 24 hours. Good luck!

On a side note picked up the set this morning.. it's a bloody heavy box!

  • Can Big W raincheck it if it's not in stock?

    • No

  • +2

I swear that these Lego Porsche kits are fast becoming the new OZB Eneloops. :D

  • This set looks excellent.

  • Still displaying $475 for Firehouse at 7.30am with stock online

At 7.40, after multiple refreshes, changes to $380 and no stock online. So dodgy

  • Thanks OP, some xmas presents sorted.

  • There were 6 left at garden city Qld this morning. They only had 8. I picked one up and another was on hold. Go straight to front counter as it is a 'high value theft item' so they don't keep it with the other Lego on the shelves. Happy hunting

  • +1

I got the last GBHQ from Big W North Lakes this morning. I will be cancelling the layby I have there for the full priced one tomorrow probably so there will be another soon

  • +1

i need this in my life

  • Grabbed mine from Phoenix in Perth this morning $302.40 all up.

  • This is a bloody nice deal to clear out all my Dan Murphy's $50 gift cards!! Thanks OP!

  • Wow. There were 15 boxes at fountain gate last night.
    This morning 0

  • Thanks OP, got one from Lilydale Marketplace first thing this morning. They where out back and there was 1 left after mine.

  • when I checked online around 1-2am this morning there was a very convenient website update, but only on selected pages, like for the Porsche.

But when I checked this morning around 8, it was out of stock for delivery and for pickup anywhere in Sydney.
I called all the sydney stores to make sure. Some goose at Auburn tells me there's 5-6 units in stock, so I drive out there.. there was none.
    I'm honestly not surprised.

    • Could have asked the staff member to reserve one for you when you called?

  • So are people buying these to collect or build?

    • I would say both

      • As above. I thought of buying one of each but couldn't justify it so build it is :)

    • Build. What's the fun in just collecting.

      • I agree, but I know a lot of people who hoard unopened lego sets.

    • +1

If you're building, you're also collecting. So are you using "collect" as a euphemism for "invest" or "scalp"?

  • I bought without using the e-gift card, cause I assumed that was for online purchases only…but they work in store?

Does big w allow for return and repurchase? (I know myer has cracked down on that).

An extra $15.90…i feel ozbargainer shame!

    • Just go to big w and ask. You have a much better chance of getting this done BTW compared to your 'cracked down' scenario - that scenario involves returning something that you purchased earlier at a higher price with the intent of buying the same item at a lower price, whereas in this scenario the price hasn't changed and merely involves changing over the payment method.. Even Myer would allow this in many cases.

      • Oh geez when did Myer do that? I used that to great effect last Christmas where the prices chopped and changed so much.

      • +1

Done! Was all good! (I must say, my experience with Big W staff has been fantastic, and not at all like most of the reports I've read online.)

Porsche for ~$302…very happy with that! :)

        • +1

My experience with Big W staff has also been great.
Unfortunately, people are more likely to comment about bad experiences so it's difficult to get a true indication of the quality of service.

    • yes e-gift card works in store as well - that's what I did. The e-gift cards come with an online number and an in-store number on them.

  • Will target match the price?

  • Late on just noticing this deal, but rang Big W to see if they had any Ghostbusters in stock at my store, said they had 1 at the counter. Thought I could go in and swap my current layby over. Rang them back up and they put me through to layby and jus adjusted the price over the phone. Sweet just scored $95 less off my layby. If anyone still has it on Layby they will adjust the price for you. They would also price match it from else where.

    • Nice.

Hopefully they re-stock this week. Nothing in Melbourne City and surrounding suburbs :(

      • Yeah, didn't even bother calling on the day the deal started. There's only like 5 stores in melbourne and they hardly have any more than 5 of each set at a time.

        • i walked in at 3pm on staurday and was able to pick up a GBHQ and GTS from the local bigw (SE vic). which stores are you call?

    • did they charge you another 5$?

  • Today Big W cancelled/refunded my order from Saturday morning. Out of stock apparently. All items were shown as in stock Saturday morning. They cancelled the whole order including items which are still showing as in-stock. "Unfortunately the item's you have ordered is currently out of stock and can not be supplied. We have processed a refund for you". Piss poor Big W.
