What Happens to eBay Click and Collect Voucher if Returning Item

Got the $100 voucher thanks to ebay click and collect promotion. Unfortunately, I need to return one of the items I bought because it is a defect.

My question is will ebay cancel my voucher because I return an item that granted me the voucher in the first place?

And if I used the voucher before I return the item, will ebay debit my paypal for the voucher?

  • Hi most likely that voucher still can be used after you get refund. It's unlikely if you use discount coupon which they reverse the discount. But technically you are not entitled for that voucher.

    • But faulty item is out of customers' control.

      • Correct. In this case you would need to accept a replacement (not a refund) to still qualify for the voucher. Otherwise, legally, you have CHOSEN to cancel the transaction that entitled you to the voucher in the first place (which is within your control).

To get really technical.. if the seller ONLY offers you a refund and not a replacement, you could potentially argue ebay should honour the voucher, but I'd hate to think of what a pain that would be in time and effort to chase up and dispute…

        • Yes thanks, I guess you are quite right. I will see how it goes at the end.

Use it before you refund and no worries,
refund before, and there's a really good chance they'll remove the code from your account as well. This has happened in other eBay deals.

    • Make sense. Thanks.

  • The Ts & Cs state that you lose the voucher if items are returned.

    • I guess thats referring to returning the item you bought with the voucher.

One of the conditions is that you pay with PayPal, right? So even if you spend the voucher then return the other item, surely the idea is that they can just dip into your account and take your cash to cover the voucher cancellation?

Seems like they would have a lot of people trying to get free stuff otherwise. While paypal does give you some good benefits, you've also given them pre-approval to screw around with your money in situations like this.

    • Yea, pretty annoying that they can do this over your paypal account even though they are two companies.
