AusPost Parcel Collect No Notification?

Hi All,

Bought something second hand off a seller on Carousell and got them to send it to my Parcel Collect address and of course - I have not received a notification. Has anyone ever had problems with AusPost not notifying them of a parcel waiting for them? Just wondering if it's worth going to the effort of attempting to get AusPost to search for my parcel (wasn't tracked) or to just start a claim on Paypal as the seller has not responded to emails/Carousell messages yet (it's been a few days). Furthermore I also bought something off of eBay from a reputable retailer stating the estimated delivery was the 27th… still not received. Usually the posties are quite good in this area. Anyone ever had any luck by walking into the postie and asking if they have any parcels sitting there under their name/address?

We have had a lot of issues with our postie here at work. We have a lot of iPods and iPhones being shipped from Apple on a day to day basis and because they are in a box but small enough for the postie bike to take he is tasked with delivering it to our building. Unfortunately we are on the third floor and apparently it is up to the postie if it is safe to leave his bike downstairs unattended to run up and deliver it. 100% every time he will not deliver and not even leave a missed delivery card. raised this many times with Australia post and all they can do is apologise and pass the feed back onto the local DC. Without tracking it makes it impossible to make your case to them.

These days I use the tracking number to know if I have something waiting to be collected from the closest Post Office.

    • I always try to use tracking but sometimes the seller just doesn't offer it. Thanks for the feedback.

      • I always try to use tracking but sometimes the seller just doesn't offer it.

What did you buy? Always ask for tracking. Who cares if they don't offer it make them get it for you. It protects THEM and YOU.

Most (if not all) AusPost packages come with tracking. If they bought a prepaid bag it would have had tracking. They can't do s*** if it didn't have tracking.

Hasn't happened with parcel collect but whenever the postie doesn't leave a card I just go in and check and they're happy to look for me. Doesn't hurt to ask

  • has happened to me before, tracking never gets updated, it was just saying at last depot waiting for delivery
i waited few days to no avail, ring up AusPost enquire about the tracking number and then they said it was not fit to place in Parcel Locker and got redirected to Post Office for collection, with no email, no SMS, no phone call, no update on the tracking number, how would I know it has been redirected to a Post Office for collection!!!

    • That's similar to what I expect has happened in my situation, I hope it is anyway. Will go down to the postie tomorrow and see if my parcels exist or not…

    • Just like the PTV, and usual govt places, they just dont give a ratsass about customer service. Whats convenient for the unionized employee is what matters. Stupid policies and rules. Stupid products designed badly. If you can register a mypost card , why cant they automate notifications electronically to your stupid auspost email account, and then have the auspost App receive the emails on push and notify you of a package parcel or change, or tracking update.

  • Always use and request Express Post with the extra $2.95 for a Signature and request tracking number. It's the only way to go with Australia Post these days.

    Good Luck.

    • Definitely learnt my lesson with that now. Thanks.

      • My suggestion would be to check at the post office anyway. Sometimes you get a card in your box to collect it. Sometimes you have to show ID and sign for it.

    • Express post is no guarantee either, costs you money they deliver the item to where they feel like it at the time, signature and ID worth nothing. An enquiry lodged, just waiting .

Signature doesn't seem to mean much to them. Recently had a GTX1080 delivered requiring signature. Was signed by them and left on doorstep. Also the parcel looked like it had been used as a soccer ball. Lodged a complaint with them that went no where and said that we had signed…

        Jesus christ that's ridiculous.

I had a package being held at a post office that was not only given to someone else, they had a completely different name (and gender) to myself!!

I stood there dumbfounded starting at the screen, they not only failed to check either of the names were the same they failed to ask for the delivery card and apparently just freaking handed my package out to a random person who signed for it.

Thankfully it was a very cheap item I had bought, but I freaking roasted those idiots for it.

      • Yep I've had the auspost van sign a few things for me too and leave them at the door.

        Its disgusting service!

Auspost have been shite recently… yes, more shite than usual.

Had a parcel off ebay from USA. Tracked and it got to the parcel locker depot let's say on Monday this week. No notification to collect. Waited until Wed or Thurs the following week and then put in a missing item report. Curiously a day or two later I got "Final notice to collect" card in my residential mail box to collect it from the AP depot (remember that it was to be delivered to the parcel locker). It seems like the collect notification SMS and emails may not have been sent recently.

    • Fingers crossed that that is what has also happened to me, hard to tell without a tracking number.

  • Hm.

Just last Monday I ordered something (Vic to NSW) that was supposed to arrive Thursday, 27th. Usually these are quite fast, but it's still not here yet.

Same story with an overseas delivery that was last tracked as entering the country on the 25th.

I do wonder if something is going on with Auspost recently. Was suspecting something changed with our local postman - he used to be excellent, but in the last week I've had letters left on top of the box and also had the neighbour's stuff misdelivered to me…

Australia Post cut thousands of postal workers because they were making millions of dollars in losses. They also increased prices substantially with the last increase being 70c to now $1 for a small letter. They've also prioritised "Priority" mail first and "Regular" mail being left behind at the sorting centres, which now means Regular Post can take up to 6 days now instead of the usual 3 days.

That's why I only ever use Express Post envelopes or satchels or Express parcels with tracking. I've had next day delivery coming from NT, VIC and WA to Sydney the very next day. I don't want my items sitting at the sorting centres for an extended time. Sometimes it sits there for 2 days with regular post when I order things online.

      • with every one sending bills electronically, wouldnt that be the biggest reduction in mail? Besides that , its only councils and ATO.

Auspost makes a profit, their parcels make a huge profit,

        • There are a lot of people who don't do things electronically. Just ask the elderly!
Australia Post is paying Australian wages. I'm just saying. People want their parcels delivered but now there is less people to deliver them - hence the regular mail can take up to six days now.

    • The item that is a possible scam was supposedly posted on the 20th from Vic while the other item was shipped on the 23rd from Sydney, both coming to the Gold Coast. Thing is though, today I received an item I ordered at the same time as the 'other' item despite it being at Adelaide which is substantially further away! That order was tracked, too. Very weird indeed.

      • Scam? You have to be so careful when you buy things on Gumtree or Carousell. Those sites are best if you meet up with the Seller locally and pay cash when you pick up. Also, Paypal doesn't cover Gumtree or Carousell - so if you lodge a dispute, you will lose your money. You should have received the parcel by now. That was 12 days ago. Was it by Regular post? If they posted it to you in a satchel, it should have a tracking number.

It happened to me when I bought a Swarovski phone cover on Gumtree and I waited 2 weeks and lodged a dispute. Paypal sided with the Seller because they said they don't cover Gumtree. Luckily the Seller sent it to me after 2.5 weeks telling me she was away for work.

Never pay Direct Deposit or Paypal when using Gumtree or Carousell. Those sites have a lot of fakes and junk people don't want!

I know Priority mail and Express is dearer but it's worth it to get it as soon as possible.

Paypal covers Ebay and other reputable sites so stick to those.

        • Fully aware of the risks, the only thing I regret is not getting this bloke's phone number. Where is it that states that you cannot get money back on a Gumtree or Carousell purchase? I've been through their terms and conditions regarding buyer protection and it all looks fine to me. There's always MasterCard to fall back to in a last ditch effort as well.

        • I called them (Paypal) and they told me.

        • @cupcake: Well it isn't on their terms and conditions now… https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full?…
Thoughts on that? Seems like pretty damning evidence that they would have to stick to. I've made a wayback machine backup just in case for reference.

        • @bananabendera: Give Paypal a ring tomorrow and then tell me what they say.

        • @cupcake: It may seem ignorant, but I'd rather sit and wait in denial for the dispute/claim to finish to see what really happens. If they have those terms and conditions online then they sure as hell are obligated to stand-by them. I'll update you on what happens. Hope you're wrong for my own sake.

        • @bananabendera: I say wait another week and check the post office as well before lodging a dispute. A phone number would have helped but try and contact the Seller for updates every few days.

Hope I am wrong with regard to Carousell.

          Hope you get your parcel.

        • @cupcake: I have been making sure to attempt constant contact with the seller to no avail. Thing is, I found someone on Facebook with very similar details and links to information with the bloke on Carousell (location, name, email prefixes). Tried contacting them, got blocked as I can no longer see them when I search for them. 90% sure I got scammed. Thanks for the wishes.

        • @bananabendera: PayPal holds the money for a period of time before releasing it to the seller. You should be able to get it back no problems.

        • @zzap: He is the Buyer.

        • @cupcake: Got my money back.

  • How is it not tracked? I thought all auspost parcels have tracking?

    • Unfortunately, no. You'd think it would be a standard feature…

      • Actually, all parcel collects are tracked.
Download the Auspost App on your phone. It will display ALL parcel collect and parcel locker stuff.

Or log-in to your "mypost" online. It should display the information.

        • So what you're saying is once they know it is a Parcel Collect they will add it to your tracked items automatically? It isn't on my list.

        • @bananabendera: Yes, if your parcel has a AUSPOST tracking number (even if it does NOT come with tracking), then that number will be used.
If not, they will stick a "parcel collect" barcode onto your parcel, and it will appear on mypost with tracking number of form "P-12345678"
So, either way… they will scan the parcel and it would appear in your "mypost" account.

        • @bsmksg: Sometimes they don't appear in the app.. still need lots of improvement for the app. Like I got the sms for 2 parcels yesterday but doesn't show up on my app.

    • It's not tracked if the Sender sticks stamps on it.

      • What? I thought there was standard parcel as well as standard parcel tracked?

        • Not if they wrap it up themselves or package it themselves and stick stamps on it.

        • @cupcake: It's possible to use stamps for a parcel?

        • Yes. I've seen $5 stamps on parcels. Sometimes $2 and $1 stamps.

It's a common issue at least in my area.
On complaining no response, last reply i get is use those boxes.

The worst part is after complaining last week the postman has stopped delivering my posts and he / she even signed themselves.
no one was at home and i have lost around 1000$ posts ….

no reply from auspost …. on calling them they say we will let you know.

    • Shouldn't you be able to view the signature that was given if you are the correct recipient for verification? Really makes no sense. Good luck with your situation.

      • +1

i have viewed the signature and even conveyed the same to AusPost but they refusing to help.
even provided my proper signature used on my driver license…

i am myself confused this is illegal what the driver as done

  • +1

Yep, so often. I primarily use Parcel Lockers and accountability over where your parcel is from Australia Post is just non-existent. I've had parcels arrive with no notifications until the "we're going to return your parcel back to sender because you didn't pick it up" notification, I've had phantom notifications where I go to the Parcel Locker and the code doesn't work, or it it opens a door to a box with no parcel, etc. It's endless.

Australia Post is a joke of a company, and even when you instigate a support case they do bugger all. As someone who buys a lot of stuff from overseas and has to deal with Auspost & foreign traders on a daily basis, it is, quite frankly, embarrassing for Australia.

    • You are not alone.. totally agree with you mate.

  • -1

Keep calling them, I have same issue. Appears was a 'rookie' first day on job? Also is illiterate and has the power to sign for and put in in mailbox , anybody's mailbox in any street. Express post and tracked item has delivery persons discretion. No ID just some random signature that say is mine. If I had the item I would not be hassling you at Aus Post.

  • Aus post say you signed for it, just neglected to ask for I D.

  • I've had parcels not even be attempted to be delivered…… But then,I think so has everyone,so I don't think I'm any different to anyone else there.
When they leave the calling card in the letterbox, on the street, and my unit is at the back of the driveway, I can conclude they haven't loaded it to the van at all…..especially when we are both out front gardening all day
Again, I'm sure everyone has issues with Australia post/startrack or who ever does them…..I'm not any better or worse off than anyone else.

    • The OP's situation is different from yours.
He is using "Parcel Collect", which means his parcels will NOT be delivered to his residential address. Instead, it would either go into a "Parcel Locker" or direct to post office.

      • Should've been more clear, one to home address, one to parcel collect.

  • +2

Parcel Collect is a nightmare, unless you are 100% sure that the seller is using Australia Post. Australia Post will not allow competitors to deliver their packages to Aust Post Parcel Collect Lockers or Parcel Collect Post Office addresses to try and stop competition.

It, for example, the seller happened to use Fastway couriers, which are popular and common in Australia, they will not allow the package to be accepted. If you're lucky and have alternate contact methods listed with your delivery then Fastway would contact you and make you pay shipping again to deliver to another address, but if no other contact method was on the delivery then it will just be returned to sender and possibly they will charge the sender postage again. Similar may happen with other non-Aus Post couriers.

This has happened to me multiple times now and it has got to the point where I no longer use Parcel Collect from Aus Post as my address if I do not know if the seller is using Aus Post or not, generally on-line stores do not say who they use when you order from their website. If not it's just not worth the drama and cost to try and use Parcel Collect.

Re eBay estimated delivery dates, most of the time I find eBay dates are pretty much correct, but sometimes (maybe 2 in 10) they are way off and come up to a week or more after the estimated date. Often sellers mark items as posted within minutes or hours of you making payment, even though they may not post for another few days. Best to first contact the seller to check if/when they posted it and ask for tracking. I find that 90% of the time sellers cannot be bothered posting a tracking number to eBay against your order, but often they can give you the number if you contact them, or let you know if there was an issue shipping your item.

  • Hi all, quick update. Second item that was meant to arrive on the 27th came today in stamped parcel. Wouldn't think it would be so slow seeing as it was coming from a capital city going to essentially another capital city (Sydney-Goldie). Now just have to enquire about Parcel Collect at the postie. Unfortunately I don't have time today so I will do that tomorrow.

    • Glad you got one of them. Sydney to the Gold Coast by Regular post. That sounds about right. It just depends on the area. Some people live in rural and isolated areas so the post can take a long while.

      • I guess the estimate was just wrong as the seller had put Australia post standard parcel post as delivery method. Seller was not in a rural area and neither am I. I guess the scam had just worn my patience thin :P

        • +2

Australia Post likes to test the patience of a lot of it's customers. Lol

        • It could also be that the Seller puts in the tracking information (or gives it to you) BEFORE he or she actually posts it, therefore it isn't really on it's way yet to you which means Australia Post doesn't have it until they scan it into their system which makes it further delayed.

Like if I buy 3kg Express Post satchels and then just type in the numbers to give to you, but don't actually post the item that day. Maybe that could be it.

OK it could be just snail mail.

  • I've never had any issues with my Parcel Collection Locker. I always get an email and a text message when it arrives. I've had an issue with a parcel attempting to be delivered to my house however. I had a parcel waiting for me at the local post office, but I never received one of those cards in my letterbox (I do live in an apartment, which has 51 other letterboxes all together at the front of the apartment complex, so it could have been put in the wrong box, however nobody collected it). I ended up contacting the people who sent me the parcel, who had a tracking number for it and told me it was at my local PO and had been waiting for collection for about 2 months.

I went to collect it and said to the person working there that I never received a collection card and if I hadn't contacted the sender, I wouldn't have ever known it was there.

But anyway in summary, no issues with Parcel Collection Lockers and notifications. It would be rare. I would contact the person who sent it/PayPal dispute it.

  • +3

Has anyone ever had problems with AusPost not notifying them of a parcel waiting for them?

Nearly 90% of the time I've had orders shipped through Australia Post. They rarely leave a card behind. Usually I put my email in the tracker so I get notifications. And at the times that I do get a notification it says "attempted delivery" and I was home at the time they attempted it. I can't stand them at times.

Anyone ever had any luck by walking into the postie and asking if they have any parcels sitting there under their name/address?

Not at the local post office, you will need to go to your nearest local depot (they stopped taking missed deliveries to the post office a long time ago), they should ask for a drivers license.

    • Pretty much this happened to me last week.

They rarely leave a card behind.
Usually I put my email in the tracker so I get notifications.

      • +1

I complained to them about 2 or 3 times. Ever since then, they've been okay-ish. I think it really depends on the courier but seems they hired a good batch of no hopers who can't ring doorbells or were just too lazy to deliver the packages. On top of that we're paying to pick up something that was meant to be delivered to us. And they have the audacity to charge people for pick ups now.

  • +1

Auspost contractors are crooks. so dodgy!

  • I started using parcel lockers a few months back because I had issues having a couple of parcels delivered to my home address.

In one instance I didn't see a first or second notification card and it wasn't until I did the ring around that I located the parcel at my local post office, according to their records I was 'carded' twice but I didn't receive either one.

Then more recently I had a similar experience with the parcel locker where I only received a final notification, when I asked about this their attitude was more or less 'Meh, well you've got your parcel now."

Was the item purchased from an international seller? I only ask because one of my recent orders has been held up by (and still appears to be with) Border Control. I ordered 3x LiPo batteries which should have arrived well over 3 weeks ago, Aus Post were able to track it as far as having been received by BC but not released, no idea why.

    • WWas only a national delivery.

  • No surprises with auspost and no deliveries. I complained a few times and finally was told that "Auspost is not a courier company and will attempt to door deliver only if easily accessible".

  • Ordered some shirts to a PO box and they sat in transit for days at the PO. Contacted Auspost who told me to contact the seller to sort it out. Seller resent the shirts which then arrived in a week.

Fast forward to three months later and a mysterious package arrives of my original order. So I ended up with double what I ordered ;)

I just can't trust them tbh.

  • I had a package sent from Syd to Melb. It was delivered to my local PO which was not open past 5pm so I was unable to make it after work. I had it redirected it closer to work and took 4 times a long to have it delivered to the PO near me than the Syd - Melb leg.

Also had a tracked package from Qld delivered. Online tracking said it had been delivered but was in fact not. After several weeks of being told to look under bushes outside my unit, its in transit, the manager will call me back, it will be investigated etc etc it turned up. I was told 6 times I would receive a call back from a manager and never received 1 call. Nothing surprises me about Australia Post anymore.

  • I order something from eBay about 3-4 weeks ago and used the Parcel Collect service at local PO. The item doesn't come with a tracking number and I have to depend on the notification that AusPost claimed to send when it arrives. But after a week and after the expected arrival date, I haven't received anything. I contacted the seller and they sent me another but nope, I still haven't received anything after another week. I went to my local PO today and asked about it but they said they can't do anything and that got me really angry. I am now just going to get a refund from the seller.
I also filed a missing item enquiry with AusPost about a week ago and still haven't received a reply from them.

I also bought this other item from eBay around a week ago and it comes with tracking and delivery address was my local PO again. The tracking yesterday said "With Australia Post for delivery today" so I thought I am getting it today, but nope again. They did attempt delivery but it wasn't even in my suburb!

"Attempted delivery - customer not known at address" - Strathfield, NSW
"RTS- Unknown at address" - Strathfield, NSW

Even my order from China with $3 Express postage (Ikr, cheap) is faster and more reliable than this. (Also using Parcel Collect)

Probably just going to use Parcel Locker from now on.
