Sudo - Free Overseas Calls, Text and Secure Email Using Virtual Number (iPhone)

210

Free calls to allot of places in the world using a virtual US/UK/Canadian number, basically a free VOIP service.

Allows you to both make and receive calls, text, emails etc.

From what I can tell the service is totally free and you can change your number a maximum of nine times before you are forced with an in-app purchase to change it a tenth time however I don't see why you would need to change your number at all.

I've tried calling the US, UK and several Asian numbers and all went through fine.

Here is an article about the app and its Credit Card cloaking feature for online payments - http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/sudo-app/

This is an email response I got from the Sudo team asking them to clarify the free calling

Thanks for your SudoApp enquiry and Good morning as we are also in Australia.

SudoApp uses either your mobile data or wifi to provide the functionality it offers. So similar to Facebook, Whatsapp and other apps the only cost to you is what your mobile provider or home internet will charge you for the data consumed by the app while it performs its function. Currently both calling and messaging are free of charge regardless of whether you communicate in network (sudo to sudo calling and messaging) or out of network (sudo to other provider e.g. telstra/optus).

If you plan to call and message a range of countries I would suggesting creating a US number as it currently offers the greater breadth of international country support.

Best Regards

  • A bit confused reading all the features. Can you get a free incoming phone number?

    • +2

The number you get will be a US, UK or Canadian number and you can receive free calls on this number.

  • Do they charge the number receiving the call?

    • +2

They don't charge for either incoming or outgoing.

I tried calling Korean, US, Nepalese, Indian and Taiwanese hotels just to see if the calls go through and all were successful.

I had a few issues with Japanese hotels and kept being disconnected after a second or two.

If the product is free, then you might be the product.

So many people don't get it.

      • I don't know what martin_henry is trying to say?

        • Petronas, consider the product in this Ozbargain, Sudo: how are they making money if they're allowing you to make/receive calls/texts for free? I didn't bother to read the T's & C's, but I imagine they're selling your metadata or your actual data like phone numbers & contact details.

  • This is awesome! I have been looking for something like this for ages. I tried it out by calling India and U.A.E and it worked great. Voted up!

  • Something seems strange here ; I have tried calling overseas numbers - both landline and mobile; the calls go through; I am a bit surprised its not so widely used as its effectively free calling anywhere; at the same time skeptical about this service and why many people are not using it; could the calls be charged directly through the mobile account - it would be a nightmare.
