So I recently got a new TV, it was a cheapy (around 300) picture quality is great for price point however the sound is awful. I was thinking of buying some decent speakers anyway to play my music so I thought this would be the perfect time to buy a set to do both jobs. Just wondering if anyone could recommend a set of speakers or soundbar etc, that has both an optical input for the TV and aux or RCA for music such as my turntable or phone. I would like to spend less than 400, but if it goes over a little bit I wouldn't mind spending a bit more to get some better ones if they are worth it. The speakers don't need to be amazing for the TV, just decent as I would rather better sound for music then TV. Thanks in advance.

Not a bad idea, unfortunately my TV only has an optical out option for sound. Do you know if an optical to RCA adapter like this one would work to solve that problem?
that should work.
here is one from aliexpress with power supply & optical cable for US $7.14 delivered
TV —-> rca adapter —> switch —->speakers
Sonos 5 also allows wireless play of music including streaming services.
Thanks for the suggestion, just a little over what I was hoping to spend
Just checked out a $59 ssound bar at Kmart. Audio sonic sbb-03005 $59. Has 3 inputs. 1. Optical, 1 rca, 1 3.5mm jack.
Microlab 9c would fit the bill if you can find any.
They are reasonably cheap ($200ish) but often sell out as soon as sellers get shipments of them in.
Just a suggestion:
how about a set of logitec 2.1 speakers. connect that to a 3-way switch like this one.
the inputs to the switch are:
headphone jack out from the TV
aux cable from phone
aux cable from turntable
The output goes to the logitec speakers.
I had a set of logitec speakers hooked up to a samsung 32" that had crappy speakers. worked perfectly.
or a simpler/smaller switch is this compact double input one for US$2.29 delivered
