can you check e-gift card balances on that? i tried and it gives an error about an incorrect card number (i tried both the long and short numbers)

I warned them about something similar ages ago, but they didn't reply to my email.
There is a problem whereby someone can brute force the PIN. The numbers seem to increase by the number of gift cards sold. I have looked at over 200 cards I have bought and they all are incremental.
This only affects online orders, which means someone who steals your will have to send the goods to themselves or someone they know, unless they have somehow found a way to do it in-store and wearing a halloween mask or something…
Nevertheless, it is problematic. There should be three different numbers, one for ordering, one for in-store and one for checking the balance.
Good grief. I'm glad I only have a small amount on my cards and buy regularly.
On the other hand if the whole site has been breached it would be no different to the scenario above as they would most likely only be able to redeem through Woolworths Online and thus be easily traced. Unless they have found the algorithm linking in-store.
So, overall, I'm not sure if it being hacked would be a big issue or not. (Mostly depends on how and if the person can cash out. e.g. using minors in-store and so on)
Apparently they didn't think it appropriate to respond to me.
Then again that didn't stop people stealing funds when Groupon leaked people's card details……..
same with coles, have to call the number.
After the Dick Smith debacle, never keep gift cards, use it ASAP.
