I've had a TP Link Archer D7 for just over 12 months, and until recently it had operated fine. We recently got a new laptop and a couple more mobiles that could utilise the 5ghz network (until then we only had 2 devices that could run on the 5ghz), and since there has been nothing but problems. After running for a while the 5ghz would drop out, so that no device could "find" it, and had to revert to the 2.4ghz. Occasionally, the 2.4ghz would also drop out, leaving no internet connection at all (even connecting via ethernet would not be able to get a signal). After various calls to TP link, and installing several different firmware versions, the problem has not been fixed, so I'm sending it back to wireless1 under warranty and am after a replacement.
I've read lots to say the D9 is an awesome modem router, but I'm a little bit worried given the issues I've had with its little sister.
I'm not looking to spend a huge amount, but I want it to be stable as there are 3 laptops, 3 mobile phones, 1 pad and 1 xbox one in the house (all one level). I'd also ideally like it to act as a media centre to play from a portable hard drive.
Any advice would be appreciated

Asus AC68U or Netgear R7000 are the competition at the same price points as the D9: these two routers are basically hardware identical with different web interfaces and uh … "unique" looks.
From my own experience of the R7000 it's rock solid.
Yikes I have the D7. Sorry to hear about your issues. I hope mine keeps working okay. My internet was actually working faster after I replaced my old old Netgear with the D7.
I've had a great run out of my Linksys/Cisco routers, as a matter of fact I just connected my old e3000 to my ea6400 as an AP to extend the network, both running like champions! ;)
