I haven't seen almond kernels on sales for quite some time. Works out as $13.20/kg.

Australia only produces 1000 tonnes of cashews per year yet consumes 15000 tonnes and of the ones we produce they are sent overseas for manual processing and handling due to labour costs then returned. However these almonds are Australian grown as we have the 2nd largest almond industry producing 80,000 tonnes per year but still dwarfed by america's 900,000 tonnes.
Yikes… if these were Australian, it means the growers are getting less than $1300/tonne… this time last year, some growers were concerned that the price had dropped to $1700/tonne… and there's still 1000's of acres of almonds being planted… if there's such a thing as "almond futures", I wouldn't be buying them…
Short them.
I'd prefer to do that with irrigation rights, considering a chunk of the bigger growers lease 75% of their irrigation requirements…
Short them and buy more water for everyone?
Almonds have been this price at smaller specialty retailers and Costco for quite a while now. Costco ones are American. Ones from smaller retailers, I'm not sure.
Woolworths ones are Aussie.
For those who missed it like me Starts Wednesday 2nd November
Aldi almonds are $15/kg so it's not crazy cheap, but definitely a bargain if the quality is good.
Last week I bought 750g of Woolworths Select Roasted Cashew nuts for $9.50 but they were "Packed in Australia from Imported and Local ingredients. I'd much prefer to buy Australian nuts.
