How to avoid 25% cancellation fee for a mattress purchased from Forty Winks

I purchased a mattress from Forty Winks yesterday and paid full amount. The delivery time is 2 to 3 weeks. When I got home I realised that my old mattress has gone busted and it is very painful to sleep on it. I need new mattress urgently.

How could I avoid 25% cancellation fee so I could purchase it from a shop where it is readily available?

Unless the store is nice enough to let you cancel (doubtful) perhaps change to something they currently have in stock. Otherwise you really don't have any options, maybe buy an inflatable mattress as a stop gap.

  • Post and try to Sell here at 15% off so you loose 15% instead of 25%. Mistakes happen.

Unlikely the OP can sell at 15% discount … mattresses have a terrible resale value, even unused/wrapped ones.

  • Have you spoken to the shop about your options? They might even give you an upgrade to something in stock. Work fast before the order goes into the production queue.

sleep on the floor until the new mattress arrives.

  • You can propably cancel the sale and get store credit without a restocking fee, as the order has not been sent to you yet, ie you havent taken receipt. Then buy another mattress than wont take 2-3 weeks to deliver.

  • Update

Received a call from store after I requested to cancel the order and waive 25% fee. Apparently they have found 2 mattresses of my model in warehouse and they will try to deliver it by latest Friday.

I am now concerned that how they suddendly found 2 mattresses and whether I am going to get mattress returned by someone else. Only time will tell.

  • As per my doubt, it appears that I ended up getting display or returned mattress. The packing was not sealed and they used plastic cover and taped it instead. All the previous mattresses I received in past had sealed packing. You could also feel roughness on top surface and too surface is fluffy if you watch very closely. A4 coloured paper has been given as warranty which is ok but it was just sitting on top surface. Generally it is secured.

They are not ready to accept their fault and won`t provide refund. They are claiming it is new mattress. Is credit card charge back only option to get my money?

    • Did you reject the delivery?

      • No and that's why we were able to open it.

The store is saying it’s brand new mattress and the purchased brand always does this packing. They are not into sealed plastic covers. They are happy to accept refund but 25% restock fee will apply. I understand they are obliged to take this item back under ACL and I am entitled for full refund.
    What should I do?

    • Keen to know which store this is from? I really wanted a bed suite from them and asked a few questions about the sale they had. The salesperson was quite evasive and when I probed further she simply said 'Well I'll just let you look around then'.

      What was the outcome?
