[Pre-Order] Astro Gaming A50 Wireless Headset: Gen 3 for PS4/XB1: GBP 227.30 (~AUD $364.63) Delivered @ Amazon.co.uk (RRP $479)

100

Pretty cheap for a brand new headset that is truly wireless. I love Astro headsets. They cost a lot, all their headsets do but these are cheaper than the A40 TR here!

You can buy Priority Express for couple more dollars which is what I did

Note: VAT is removed at checkout making the headset £208.33
Also note: This is the cheapest it will be for awhile as they never have sales on these type of headsets

RRP $479 is at JB HI FI and EBgames, on ebay their $500!? I dont know why.

Edit: no longer can buy, seller does not ship to AU.

Good price considering what they cost here, but unless they've improved out of sight in the last 3 years their sound is terrible. I actually found the sound uncomfortable to listen to. Boomy and muddy base with uncomfortably forward treble.
    Feature set is great though.

    • I disagree on sound. Having came from the Playstation Gold headset I found the gen 2 A50 to sound great on my PS4 (also liked the Gold's, just these were better.

      • Each to their own. I came from using Sennheiser PC360's plugged into a wired Astro Mixamp which was phenomenal, and these were almost unlistenable in comparison.

As for the PlayStation Gold headset I found them tinny, until I installed the Infamous Second Son preset which made them sound fine. Nowhere near the best I'd ever heard, but they weren't painful to listen to. Plus the ease of use in regards to swapping he headset between my PS3 and PS4 made it an easy choice.

  • Thanks ! i was close to getting from jb didnt want to pay $479 though

  • Showing 249 pounds ?

    • go to checkout it will change

At this price, you can get audiophile grade headphones and a decent mic.

    • -3

No one said you had to buy them

      • +4

Relax, i'm just offering a different perspective - Sennheisser HD598s + clipons would do fine.

        • links? true wireless for xbox one? 7.1 for gaming?

        • +2

Not wireless though. People generally looking at wireless are looking at best wireless in budget, not best headphones in budget. I agree wired are better but apples and oranges really.

        • @bxpressiv:
I agree, it's all down to preference. What I listed above is sufficient for Twitch streamers and there aren't a whole lot of wireless headphones.

As for 7.1 idk whether clarity outweighs virtual surround sound. You can always have the Sennheissers for everyday use as well.

        • @Baebs: Yeah, I sit on my bed, away from my tv so I need wireless. Also want surround sound for gaming, I dont twitch. this is mainly for gamers.

        • @shadowrukia:
          Fair enough :)

        • @shadowrukia:

          7.1

Can't you just use Razer sound driver?

    • +1

Yeah, personally I think 'gaming headsets' are insanely overpriced, have shocking sound (for the price), and even worse microphones, but if you want something completely wireless there's not a whole lot of options I guess.

      • Agreed. I bought a refurb set of gen 2, I reckon they sound alright for what they are. I like the cordless charging of this version which is far more convenient.

        • this will have better sound, and mic as well compare to gen 2, gen 2 had some problems

      • They are, i agree

    • Yeah I bought a pair via ebay 15% off sitewide. Was not very impressed by them.

Some find them very comfortable, but it varies from person to person. They felt very heavy to me and they were dragging my ears down.

      AQ was not great.

Ended up getting a refund. But that was a few years ago so it wouldn't be Gen 3.

  • Do you get battery level indication yet.
Is the battery user replaceable yet?
Things that let me down with the gen 1.

    • you get battery level indication on base station i think. not user replaceable just like phones now days. if a problem amazon is good or go to Astro and hope for the best

  • Thanks OP- I've purchased with an expired card so I can dwell on it while I wait for the shipping and eventual 'payment failed, please update' message. I would use my gen 2 more if there was no cord, so for me it may be an upgrade. The gen 2 I have are in excellent condition so I could sell them cheap too.

Even at this lower price they are not "cheap" for wireless. For PlayStation of course there is the wireless Gold and for all platforms there is the Logitech G933 that has been $180 here. I use the G933s and I'm very happy with them.

    • Thats nice but the 7.1 does not work on consoles only PC….SOooooooo… yeah. also guessing your talking about a sale, G933 is not the same brand as these they are also $299 at JB so their not cheap as well.the a50 have a better mic and better built. new tech as well. and comes with a base stand for charging

      • +1

G933 is not the same brand as these

Yes, they are Logitech, I was quite clear on that, what is your point?

they are also $299 at JB

And these are $489 or $479 at JB.

the a50 have a better mic

So you have compared the two? In the reviews I watched on YouTube comparing several brands, it was hard to pick a clear winner between the G933 and TB X800, but the A50s were clearly thinner.

You seem to be taking this as some kind of personal attack rather than as simply listing two options that are under half the price you list as being "cheap".

  • +1

So if I get the a50s for the x1 I can't use them with my ps4!?

    • yes you can just not mic, you can get sound im pretty sure.

      • U sure?

Why would it work on one and not the other?

        • Because PS4 and Xbox one use diff voice chat software chip thingys… Thats also what I was told.

  • I just bought the Astro A50 Gen 3 XB1,last Wednesday from JB Hifi for $380 + $55 for an extra 2 years (3 total) replacement warranty so $435 total all up. Was told I could do the same if I wanted to do with PS4 as well. I'm thinking I scored a decent deal on them.

    • DO you have some feedback?

      • Haven't used them a lot atm, but very comfortable and clear so far. NO CHAT CABLE is SOOO Helpful.

      • Okay just had a 3hr hit out of COD BO3. No sweaty or hot ears, fabric feel very nice on ears. Great surround Dolby sound felt like people were right behind me. Mic seemed good plus auto turn off and long battery life. Much better then standard headsets. No faults known worth it for a good price

        • How did you get it that cheep do you have proof for price match

    • Would you happen to have a receipt for price matching? :D

      • Sorry new to posting her, Yes I can but how can I add/attach the photo to the post ??I can't see any options where I comment. Thanks

        • Are you able to take s better pic ? Also how did you get ot that cheap?

        • @shadowrukia: Have you tried zooming the pic, it looks pretty clear and is enlargeable. I was hoping to get for $480 with the 2 years extra warranty incl. but then the guy was like $380 and the $55 is $435 which is better then $480. I'm like yeah sounds good to me. So yeah scored I think.

        • @Nph81: awesome I got it the same price. the dude was super nice and friendly and was in a good mood lol . Thanks @Nph81

        • @shadowrukia: I also used woolworths gift cards for 5% off to buy jb gift cards.

        • @shadowrukia: So the price doesn't seem like an error then … They can really go that low and still a good profit for them hmmm. Did you also get the warranty or just the headsets ? My Jb only the got the 1 XB one in, lucky I ordred, nearly bought from EB ouch. The did how ever get 4 ps4 ones in. The XB ones seem to be as not as readily avail as PS4 ones

  • +1

Can you use the PS4 version on Xbox One and PC?

    The green is horrible…

    • I know right. PS4 ver can be used on PC but on xbox one you get sound but no mic, least thats what I have heard.

    • +1

Both versions work on their specific console and on PC, there is a switch on the base station to switch between console and PC. The headsets/base station are chipped protected somehow which is why they are console locked (or the way they were able to go true wireless on XB1 is to protect it (lock it) somehow). NO CHAT CABLE needed for XB1. Rep advised me they had to be console specific.

The headsets also have an excelarometer?(spelling) so when you lay it down after 15 seconds it powers off. As soon as you pick it up powers straight back on. No accidently forgetting to turn it off. 15hrs battery life

      • +1

        Here you go - accelerometer.

        • +1

Excelerometer is used for quickly populating spreadsheets.
