18650 battery / sizes

Hi guys

Have bought this BLF light. But my protected 18650 batteries that actually last as long as expected (vs the generic 1gazillion mAh batteries that last a few mins) don't fit!

I had to put in the generic stuff.

Any idea which types of 18650s, either particular brands or model types, I will have luck with?

Thanks

Panasonic 3400mah is a good start. have a look at the relevant forums I'm pretty sure these are the standard.

    • Hey mate. Thanks for the suggestions. Went ahead and bought some Panasonics and they fit!
      Woo! Stoked.
      Thanks heaps.

Pull off the protection maybe. But check if it would work with a flat top battery. If not, you'd need to put a blob of solder on the end.

    • Got a flat top Panasonic. It worked just fine, it fit circumference-wise too.
      Thanks for the reply!

Like frondono suggested, I bought those. http://www.banggood.com/2PCS-NCR-18650B-3_7V-3400mAh-Protect… they work well and fit well in I'm assuming the same BLF A6 flashlight.

    • Thanks mate. I bought some Panasonics, but if they don't work, I will try your suggestion. Much appreciated.

If you aren't overly concerned about modifying the light itself, perhaps you could 'shorten' the contact spring at the tailcap.
By that, I mean, cutting the spring sufficiently short, that it still makes contact. Then with some needlenose pliers, twist/bend the spring in a manner that makes it more 'neat'.
I've had to do it to one of my budget 'zoomable' lights to fit a protected 18650 and it works fine.

**This presumes that the protected battery is a bit too long to fit within the compartment.

    • Thanks. I'll have a look to see if that's possible. Actually. It was the width that was an issue. The protected battery was too thick haha. I was so perplexed.

Ahh, yeh that is another possible issue with protected batteries.
In that case, as suggested above, you can try removing the protection circuit (it has a strip connecting the negative/positive) and see if that fits.
However, as the protection pcb is designed to protect against over discharge, over charge, over current, and other issues; take care when using or charging said battery.

Thanks mate. Will check it out. Appreciate the replies.

        • So I tried the Panasonics and they fit just fine. Thanks again :)
