wow that seems really cheap :O

  • +2

does this have the overheating issue

    • +5

no those are the FTW models

      • +2

that issue is corrected in cards manufactured after august.

  • +2

Good card and even better price, though it would appear that EVGA is having various problems with 10XX series cards: https://www.techpowerup.com/227133/evga-gtx-1070-1080-overhe… Also this whirlpool user claims their 1080 SC fried a few days ago https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2561141&… with subsequent posts saying their motherboard may have been damaged also.

I have the FTW version, and have just emailed EVGA about the possibility of getting a preventative RMA as I don't want it to take out my other components if/when it decides to give up the ghost. I Also asked if they are liable if it does cause other damage.

Hopefully they can sort it out. Still glad I got EVGA cause of the warranty :)

    • +2

Is this just a evga issue or is it all brands?

      • +2

Just Evga because they decided that a $1 thermal pad was too much, but it seems to be limited to the FTW series so it the SC edition should be fine

  • +4

You can just go to the EVGA web page and order your free thermal pads to fix the issue. Problem solved :)

    • Looking at a 1080 and a complete novice here with no experience with graphics cards.
The price looks great and international warranty is very helpful.
Just wondering how these cards rate against others. Are they a reliable brand and card other than the issue mentioned above?

      • +3

Are they a reliable brand and card other than the issue mentioned above

        Yes.

      • +6

        Yes. EVGA is the goods.

        • Thanks very much for the replies

    • If these cards are manufactured after august, then they have already been fixed. For everyone else heres the link:
      http://www.evga.com/thermalmod/
You need to be logged in and have registered your card. I've never had the issue (black screen caused by overheating parts), but I requested it anyway.

  • What? Only 800? OMG I bought this over 1000.

    • +8

But you've been enjoying your one right?

      • Yeah , I only buy cards from either ASUS or EVGA. The only card that 'broken' on my hand is a gigabyte GTX580, after that, I prefer some cards with default setting or less overclocking.

  • Really interested as the price is very attractive, but I am not in a real rush to buy, but would like to get one by Xmas.
Do you think this and possibly others would have some impressive pricing when Cyber Monday/Black Friday hits next month for instance?

Apologies, really new to shopping for these kinds of things.

    • -4

Pretty likely to be a better deal in the next couple of months, these things have already dropped a couple hundred.

      • Reason to neg the deal?

        • Drunk, didn't even mean to.

        • @XeKToReX: I understand, a bit of early morning drinking heh? Reminds me of mum.

        • +1

@FabMan:haha, moved 10000 bricks before 1PM, was definitely some sustenance required.

      • That's hardly a reason to neg a deal since everything tech related gets cheaper over time.

    • +3

There's likely to be more deals as the 1080ti has been "leaked" for a Q1 2017 release. Plus black friday is 4 weeks away; bargains for sure.

Whether it's worth it to wait is up to you; this card is overkill for 1440p, but not good enough for 4K (all settings maxed). I'd wait.

      • +5

Not overkill for 1440p if you plan on running at higher Hz (144-165Hz) like me.

        • What games can a GTX1080 run consistently at 1440p @ 144Hz?

Even an MSI Gaming X GTX1080 Overclocked seems to run most Triple A titles at 100fps or less (Battlefield 4 ~100fps, Fallout ~110, GTA V ~100, Black Ops 3 ~75fps, Witcher 3 ~80fps).

          https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1080_Gaming_X/9.…

I guess if you turn the settings down it'll likely hit 144Hz…just seems too good for 60fps, but not quite there for 144Hz. Still a very good card, for a good price that likely won't drop much until early next year.

        • @marth6:

Well I'm running a 6700k OC to 4.8Ghz and a 1080 and I can only hit that magic 144 with 1440p if I turn settings down.

Everything maxed out the game will generally sit anywhere from 90-115 fps. Anti-aliasing is what destroys my frame rates. Turn that down and fps jumps up.

  • "Temporairement en rupture de stock"/Temporary out of stock, but it still lets you put the order in.

Damn nice price, I paid 670$ for zotac amp extreme 1070. =(

  • +1

Still waiting to see what AMD brings…

    • +2

I love posts like these where people are hopeful that AMD will somehow release something amazing. You're setting yourself up for disappointment.

      • +1

Yep probably, but i'm just hoping for a little bit of competition..

  • +1

Remember GTX1080TI will be released in less than 3 Months (JAN 2017)

    • +2

And will be ridiculously expensive, have stock issues, price gouging and lack of reviews.

      • +1

        Can't argue with you there

    • That's great news if you want to wait 6 months to get your GPU locally and pay 2x the price of this deal :P

I recommend everyone reconsider buying this card. Lots of reports coming in of then catching on fire due to the lack of VRM cooling.

If you have one already, I would buy an aftermarket cooler ASAP.

  • Good deal !
