AirAsia Keeps Spamming My Mobile

Get these everyday and I still have a week of torture to go…

"AirAsia:7kg cabin baggage is allowed. Save more when u pre-book checked baggage from RM26.50&avoid paying more @airport.Pre-book @AirAsia Mobile App."

Followed by: "AirAsia: Get more value when you fly! Pre-book your meal and checked baggage to enjoy lower rates and a smoother trip. Pre-book @ AirAsia Mobile App!"

It started off innocently enough: "Flying somewhere soon?Whatever your needs, we have the right seats. Pick your preferred seat now via AirAsia Mobile App!" and "AirAsia: Get more value when you fly! Pre-book your meal and checked baggage to enjoy lower rates and a smoother trip. Pre-book @AirAsia Mobile App."

I can't say they didn't suggest as adding extras when I get there. But 2 SMSs is a lot these days when every other app uses less alarming smart phone notifications.

Since I couldn't Google this as a new frustration I'm posting it here.

  • Check if there is an unsubscribe facility. If not, then they have violated the Australian Spam Act.

If it is the app sending you notification, you can turn the notification off in your mobile setting.

    • Yeah this is without the app. I think I uninstalled it for this very reason, but before it wasn't up selling it was straight out marketing.

I logged in to AirAsia and I didn't see an opt out option. I could just change my number.

  • Try replying with STOP. Just one word. Most systems respond to that command.

Thanks I'll try it now. It may co-incidentally was meant to stop though and I'll never know :)

Interesting that banana and now fruit were the first to reply. Sadly. vegetables seem to get all the attention…

    • I don't think I can even send "STOP" since the source number is just listed as "AirAsia"…

Another major business spamming people. I love it how the media gives the impression it's dodgy backroom criminals when all the spam I see is Fortune 500 businesses being criminals.

Thanks. I've re-spammed the messages to ACMA.

The only way you can get it to stop is to fly to Asia, find the head office and delete your own entry from their marketing department. Buy a black hoody and pants before you go and learn to abseil.

  • I had the same problem. And so I changed my mobile number on my Airasia membership & all of my bookings. Voila! No more spam!!
