Mother Earth Peanut Butter for $2.49 (Usual Price $5 - $5.50) @ Woolworths

460

For those of you who are fans of the oily type of peanut butter, this is an excellent product at an excellent price…I can personally vouch for the chia seed one, can't get enough of that stuff…

Pro-tip - make sure you give it a really good stir when you first open it, otherwise it may get a bit dry towards the end..

I might have a look at this one, cheers.

I used to like the old Sanitarium Natural one too, I laughed every time I read the ingredients list, and I quote:

    Ingredients: Peanuts.

Did it include the warning that it may contain traces of nuts?.

      • I never noticed at the time, it would be interesting to know if they did have the usual "Traces of tree nuts, soybeans etc, etc." disclaimer…

      • I also find this funny, even though I know peanuts are not nuts.

Macro Organic from Woolies is good. Ingredients : 100% organic roasted peanuts.

      • +1

Isn't macro made from 'Chinese organic' peanuts though? I tend to go with mayvers

Ah yes, naturally occurring peanut butter, who doesn't love that naturalness.

    • Hehe, it just means it's 100% peanuts. No added sugar, salt or additives. That's why 'natural' PB is so oily. It doesn't contain any emulsifier to stabilise the mixture (i.e. keep the peanut fat mixed in with the rest).

      • Actually most natural PB add salt. This one has salt.

I like the Sanitarium brand because it is 100% nuts, no salt.

        • Yeah, it should mean no-added anything, but I've also noticed added salt in some.

My favourite is also the Sanitarium. I always have a jar handy!

Or, for the true OzBargain buyer, buy your peanuts for around $5.50kg and make your own PB. I get mine here (http://2brothersfoods.com/nuts/peanuts-roasted-unsalted), Put about 300g in the blender and blend until you have PB, this will give you enough for 1-2 jars. You might need a decent blender though as once is starts to turn to butter your motor may struggle. Now, I have assumed here that 'OzBargain' peeps aredn't averse to a little DIY :-)

    • Pretty hard work for your blender though. The money you save on PB you will spend twofold on blender repairs or replacement.

By the way, how can 300g of peanuts make TWO 375g jars of PB?

      • +1

Like I said - depends on the blender you have (cost of blender not included in this calc of course), I have a Vitamix so no drama for me. As for # of jars, I just used whatever jar I have, no idea what size they are :-D

good tip, but it's Chinese Produce
anyone can recommend where to buy ozzie peanuts?

      • +1

Woolies or Coles, Kookabarra brand raw peanuts, as low as $2.80 for a 375g pack or thereabouts.

You could always try their Dry Roasted which are Aussie - http://2brothersfoods.com/nuts/peanuts-dry-roasted. I have tried them for making PB though.

      • You can try using crushed peanuts which should be easier to blend. One place to shop is Royal Nut Company

  • Not as good as Mayvers, but I grab some when it's this cheap.

Advanced Pro-Tip. Put the PB container upside down between uses.

I will try this brand but I really hate the cheap and nasty container, I have picked up a few jars at the supermarket and they were leaking.

    • I have not tried this trip. Doesn't oil spill out if you keep it upside down?

      • +1

Not if you have a decent container, not sure about this one.

Store it upside down, the oil goes to the bottom. When you want to use it, turn it over, wait a few seconds then open it. The top will have PB on it, just scrap it off with your knife. Works great.

        • Just brought a few Mother Earth Peanut Butter and tried your Pro-Tip, it works perfectly. Thanks for the advice and I think the jar is very nicely sealed even after you opened them.

thats the same pro-tip for the bedroom also

    • You eat peanut butter in the bedroom?

      • +1

Why not Netflix and chill with pb

  • Thanks - got 1 of each
When leaving, couldn't help but think I should have got more (big peanut butter eaters/cookers)

  • Heading to Woolies today, My whole family goes through a few jars a week. I keep it upside down and it has never leaked, the jar seems better than other ones that leak.
