iPhone 7 - Modem Performance Issue With Australian Models

A recent analysis of iPhone 7 variants shows that the models shipped for Australia may perform worse than other US models - iPhone 7 Plus: A Tale of Two Personalities. It shows that the network reception of the A1778 and A1784 models is not very good for anything but strong signals.

This may affect buyers choosing between locally sourced machines and some gray imports, and whether these phones would be the best choice for remote or weak signal areas.

  • There's also a reported difference in data speeds between the 32GB and 128GB models, though this isn't region specific as far I can see. Best to just wait for the fully redesigned iPhone 8.

    • that isn't confined to Apple. Try other companies phone between the lowest and highest storage, you will see similar results.

Do not that this is write speed, read is basically the same which means you won't really see too much of an issue.

4 hours and no one has taken the opportunity to hang crap on Apple, disappointing OzB….

Doesn't look significant enough to cause concern.

  • I agree that it may not make a difference to many (did just buy one anyway) - it's just that the LTE network performance does not test as well as the other iPhones or flagship brands, particularly for very weak signals as in the cellularinsights comparison graph - (at least for band 4).
