Application for Platinum Edge Credit Card

Hi guys,

I was hoping I could get a few questions answered by some of you who have this card or know about it. I've never applied for a credit card before and have been looking at this one because it has the complimentary annual flight, travel insurance and good points per dollar.

I am a bit worried about the application process and don't want to get denied and have that on my name. Please note that I plan to pay off my bill monthly. What I am concerned about is that it says that I need to have a personal gross (pre-tax) annual income of $50,000 or more. I work casually and on my payslip it says my annual income is more than $50,000 however sometimes I only work a few hours a week and obviously do not earn that much.

What is the application process like? Will they ask for my payslip? If they do and see that my annual income on my payslip says it's more but they notice that in the fortnight I only worked a few hours and didn't earn much will I still get rejected?

This will be my first credit item I will get, don't have a mortgage no loans etc

Thanks in advance!

  • They may ask for your last 2 payslips to confirm your salary in which case you're screwed. I'd say you're better off applying for a CC that requires less income

    • Can they really reject you even if your payslip states your annual income is higher than 50k despite earning less in the last fortnight?

      • Well i can't say.

But I'd assume every case is different. If your payslip says you're on $50k/PA but working casually, that means you're not earning $50k per year. They'll see that.

If you really fluctuate significantly in your fortnightly pay, guess you could wait until you had a higher fortnight.

I think AMEX is a bit easier on the process than some other companies…but who knows.

      • I think evidence of stable income is what they're looking for, even if it's a casual doing regular consistent work. With bank issued cc, a good looking bank account would help.

    • Thanks! I have applied now, they have sent an email asking for Photo ID and current address verification such as ATO notice of assessment, bank statement, council rates or utility bill. Not sure what to send, can't send rates as they're not in my name and don't particularly want to send a bank statement or ATO notice of assessment :s

they accepted it with no questions asked, i did say i earnt 50k though on the application.

    • How long ago was this? Hoping their application process hasn't changed…

      • December 2015 - Best of luck.

  • My first CC was 28 degrees and they asked me nothing, I wasn't doing a full-time job and it was back in 2013 or 12.

I applied and was accepted about 2/3 weeks ago, I earn high 30s as a student and said I earn just over 50k on application, never got asked for pay slips.
