Hi guys
Last year I purchased a Xbox One Kinect bundle from a Target store. The box was opened so a request was made to note this on the receipt. The person serving me was happy to do so and advised it was a new console, not a returned one.
Earlier this year I contacted Xbox Customer Support regarding a separate issue. During this call, I mentioned that I had been unable to register the console on the Xbox website for warranty purposes. The Xbox representative offered to register the console for me over the phone then advised that it was out of warranty. This was odd as it was purchased in September 2015. With Microsoft offering 2 years warranty, it should last until September 2017.
I wanted to find out if this console had been previously purchased or registered. Management at the Target store initially agreed to give a refund then did a back-flip pending further investigation. Xbox couldn’t provide information regarding registration of the console other than the warranty dates.
Xbox have provided me with different and conflicting information such as:
- The manufacturer’s warranty period was from June 2014 to June 2016.
- That this manufacturer’s warranty starts from when a console is assembled.
- There is a possibility the it may be a return or refurbished console.
I opened a case with the Department of Commerce WA and the lady looking at the case has mentioned the following:
- Target has been advised by Xbox Customer Support there is no way the console is used.
- If I can’t provide proof that the console is used they will close the case.
- I asked her if the warranty dates I had been given from Xbox would be enough proof and she wouldn’t answer.
If anyone has any further advice to support my case, that would be appreciated.
If the warranty is for two years it should be from date of purchase.
You may not be able to prove that is was used easily.
But if it's faulty and cannot be registered then you should be able to get a replacement or refund under Australian consumer guarantee.
