Loose Disc in Case

Those of you who still buy physical games, how many games have you received with the disc loose inside a sealed case?
In the last month, I have bought a mixture of PS4, Wii U, PS3 games locally and overseas and have found only 1 out of 7 games have survived the journey intact. All were shipped in an envelop rather than a box. Most of my games that ship in a box have arrived safely.
I know that ebgames like to get a bit of a knock around here but they do one thing right by having really good.

Is this a common occurrence this generation of games or is it just the postage system.

    1st world problems…? 😂

  • Never had this problem…

  • I've only had this occasionally, maybe 1/20 disks? And more often with second-hand games.

  • Never had a loose game. Are you buying them all from the same place?

Sounds like you're getting 2nd hand games from EB

    • Nah, read it as EB is the only place he doesn't get damaged cases.

      • Brand new games. Most recently games from Base posted on ozbargin.
3 out of 4 of my orders from them have had the disc come off the hub and rattling inside.
I am sure it's fine as Blu rays are much more resistant to scratches but was thinking if this is a common problem or is it just my bad luck.
Them shipping in a paper cardboard envelop does not help.

        • I have to say I've recently ordered 4 games from Base, and 2/4 games, the disk was off the hub and moving inside.

  • I wished every disk came with a unique code/barcode on the top.
And that if the disk ever got damaged you could send an enquiry/email to PlayStation/Xbox/Nintendo through to their partners.
And they could de-register the license number from the disk, and issue you a new number; which you can use to download the same game from the Online Store.

We already do this on Android and iOS, when developers send you codes for you to download their paid Apps freely from the stores.
Might as well make use of the ecosystem, right?

  • Years ago a DVD I bought from CDWOW fell loose in transit. With the disc all scratched, they sent a new one almost immediately. That's the only time this has happened to me.

Depends on the case and holder.

EA Xbox 360 cases were the worst. XBox 360 discs also scratch pretty easily.
The yin and yang 69 centres are easily the worst and were often broken.

Standard Xbox 360 Cases with centres like a cog were pretty good.
PS3 cases are quite good. Occasional loose disc but the blu ray discs are much, much more resistant to scratches. Some marks would wipe off disc due to strong disc plastic.
Nintendo Wii and Wii U are the best cases. Hard to remove even by hand :)

Dreamcast PAL cases are a brittle nightmare.

A lot of the problems came when they stopped including full manuals in the case.

    • +1 for the Dreamcast shout-out… they're terrible :D

  • I've had this before, who hasnt.. but its mainly in the two discs or three disc boxes where they force two discs on the one holding spindled. Well then of course its likely to pop off.

You may as well fix it yourself with some toothpaste or car polish.

  • This is actually really common for me. I get it with both PS4 games and Blu-Rays. I recently bought 4 Blu-rays from JB Hi-Fi. 2 were rattlers. I bought a PS4 game from Play-Asia, it was also a snake. I've just come to accept it. It scares me, and I always tear open the shrink wrap to check the condition and it's almost always fine, but still scares me. Silly disc inserting robots :{

N.B. This doesn't include when the actual insert spindle disc holder button thing has broken and the disc is loose. I count them completely separate. That happens much much less often.

    • when i am buying a disk from a store i hold the box by the side and gently move it backwards and forwards
if it's a multi-disk box and you shake it you will hear the tray piece moving in its slot but by moving backwards and forwards you will hear a loose disc rolling around in the case
