Apple: 90% of "Original", "Genuine" Apple Chargers and Lightning Cables on Amazon Are Fake

Today Apple courageously announced that it was suing Mobile Star LLC for manufacturing chargers and cables and then selling them on Amazon as special magical Apple cables when there wasn't any Apple magic anywhere to be seen.

The listings actually seem to be Amazon's own listings rather than this smaller company's so it seems that maybe Apple's courage only extended to suing a smaller supplier rather than the 10,000 pound gorilla named Amazon. If it was Amazon's listings then Amazon is scamming customers by selling fakes which might give people pause before trusting the Amazon name again.

The lawsuit was initiated after Apple found that 90% of the cables they bought and tested were not genuine products.

    Genuinely fake.

  • The manufacturer is the one who inform Amazon that the product is genuine and MFI certified thus why Apple to sue the manufacture rather than Amazon. I don't see the problem?

    • Just reread the article again, the items that was tested are all Fulfil by Amazon (however I confuse on the image provided below as item is sold by Amazon itself) - in the case of Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) the items are all provided by sellers to Amazon and Amazon does all the consumer enquiries, sales and shipment of the products. In the case of brand protected listing Amazon usually restricted the listing ability of sellers before getting approved beforehand, but not to all items. This particular items may just not need for approval, thus everyone can sell them on Amazon. Items that are sold by Amazon itself usually sourced from Apple itself or trusted Apple authorized distributors.

@Savas: amazon is not responsible for some doggy manufacturer claiming that their product is original.

        • @Savas: From the article:

Apple has filed a lawsuit against Mobile Star LLC for manufacturing fake Apple chargers and cables and passing them off on Amazon as authentic goods.

Mobile Star tell Amazon that they are genuine. All Amazon have done is believe Mobile Star.

i heard the term in bangkok 'genuine imitation' apparently they meant it's better quality than just an imitation. still dodgey fake crap lol

    • Yah, they have grades to those imitation.

      • the guy telling me was standing in front of a 'harvey davieson' motorbike lol

  • simple way to get cheap genuine cables is at a hotel. Next time you go, tell reception you left your charger at home. Alot of the time they will be happy to 'lend' you a charger or give you one, as many people leave their chargers behind when checking out.

    • Left behind cables are not necessarily genuine. It can be either fakes or genuines.

      • yes i agree.
But most people buy genuine ones. Its a risk, but imo it pays off.
