    How is this a bargain?

Is 2GB meant to be 2TB?

    • +4

      Yes.

    • -3

      "bargain for apple fanboi only".

that should be the title. what is it inside, doesnt matter. they will buy.

      • +1

        Haters gunna hate.

      • +1

Not an Apple fanboy, but I do like their products.

It's not what's inside that affects what I buy but how the product works. This is where Apple products shine.

  • 2gb???????

  • Great for KK

    • KK?

    • -1

      Karate kids? Kaped krusaders?

    • Kris Kringle hahaha.

      • For $47? That's some KK!

        • Yeah I do the $50 KK with my close friends. Makes the pressies a bit more substantial rather than a random mug or photo frame.

  • +7

Yes 2gb but i must say when you are the gym, having this bad boy cliped to your singlet with some in ear headphones is the way to go..

Plus its high fidelity music quality you cannot go wrong

I love this device… still use it… cannot flaw it.

    • +6

Yeah, why risk the actual phone that cost more than this gadget. A cracked screen costs more or even the running cover at times! It's also convenient once it is sealed to be used for both the pool and the gym/run.

      • +1

how do you seal them, btw?

        • I used dielectric silicon grease but there could be plenty of other "versions" of the chemical.

        • @deal junkie: ah. so just squirt the grease everywhere on the shuffle?

        • +1

@tdw: Especially in the jack as if you don't seal that properly then the water gets in there easily and readily and then it would bust. But at this price, you could buy 3 ipods as oppose to paying the various companies out there that sell them "waterproof" ready - if that makes sense. I tend to squirt it in the jack every so often as I swim a fair bit with them.

        • +1

@deal junkie: thanks for the tips. now to wait for a deal on grease ;)

        • +1

@tdw: Sell the earpods within the casing and then use that cash to buy the grease!

        • +1

          @deal junkie:
not sure if serious but … sounds serious..

people actually can listen to music while swimming? WOW

        • @robbbyrob:

yeah wtf? is that dude for real?

    • +6

If only Spotify or Apple Music works with IPod Shuffle :(

    • -3

ever heard of BT or bluetooth? now Apple doesn't even do headphone jack

    • Plus its high fidelity music quality you cannot go wrong

That completely depends on the file being played.

  • Does it come with headphone jack?

    • LOL Yes it does…

even when you plug into PC it uses the headphone jack…

These now retail for like 70 dollars…

They used to retail for 45 dollars.

So 47 is a bargain imo

      • +1

i was just going to mention the unfathomable price hike of the years. no difference in features or capacity but price jumps way up to $75

      • My take on the price hike….Apple have done it because they can. IMHO there is no decent dedicated cheap but hi quality MP3 player marketed now. The only competition is the Sansa Clip and after having 3 of those fail in rapid succession I can only conclude their quality control simply doesn't exist. Refuse to buy again no matter how good a price may be on offer.

        • Interesting, I too had a Sansa Clip die on me as well after buying it because it was one of the only small clip style players I could find that wasn't IPod Shuffle. I ended up getting a couple of different Chinese brand players off Aliexpress for $20 a piece which were fantastic but retired them for phone/Bluetooth combo

Does HN still have a coupon code for first time buyers

  • 2GB is just ridiculously limiting. If Apple are going to continue to be silly about SD cards then they need to have more onboard storage.
Would much rather one of those $2 knockoffs that accept 8GB+ cards.

    • +1

they used to have 4gb ones (3rd gen).
and i've bought one of those cheapo shuffle clones. battery life was abysmal. not even 4 hours.

  • Hopefully TGG will match this so I can use a code or two to get one a bit cheaper.

  • +14

These are not for everyone, but those who are complaining that the storage is too low might not understand what these are designed for.

Short version: use it when running or working out and you don't really notice it's there. I take mine running, along with a GPS watch and my driver's licence and it's all I need.

Long version: You plug it in to your PC and it can/will randomly fill itself up with music from your library or selected playlists within it. I've got a massive running/workout playlist of about 3000 songs that I've been putting together over the last 10 years, and it's nice to get a random mix every time I go out for a run. I have been using a 3rd gen shuffle for the last 4 or 5 years at least. Before that I had a 1st gen that only died when I ran over it accidentally.

The battery life is great, the size is great, the clip is great and the controls are super easy to use by touch, even with thin gloves on.

Say what you want about Apple, but their mp3 players are pretty damn good (well they used to be). For the record my phone is a Xiaomi, I use a SP3 daily, my HTPC is a NUC and our house is mostly Windows and Android apart from a 5yo MacBook air. I'm not a Mac fan by any stretch, I just don't like seeing people pass judgement without some knowledge to help

    • Uses iTunes store? I have a walkman and only need to use windows explorer. It has a small screen and quick charge

      • It does use iTunes, but I use auto shuffle so I just plug it in to charge at night and then I forget about it until I need to charge a week or 2 later. I don't think I would ever use the shuffle for anything apart from exercise though, whereas the Sony Walkmans look good for commuting and casual listening

    • Fair call mate. Do you need itunes to sync it? or can you get away with drag and drop from explorer?

      • iTunes unfortunately, but I just use auto shuffle so it's not too painful.

    • +3

You don't need a drivers licence to run. only to drive here in Australia.

      • +1

it's to make identifying someone easier and notifying next-of-kin in the event of serious injury or death.

      • +1

Ha, I never used to take it but my wife started insisting I did on the off chance that I get hit by a car or something. Sometimes I end up 7 or 8 km from home on a run so I can kind of see her point.

  • Considering that earphones retail for $45, its only $2 extra for a shuffle ;)
nevermind, it's the old style ones :(

  • -7

2gb is only enough for 1 album.

  • I've got all my music on spotify now… is there anyway to "sync" it?

  • I will the next iPod shuffle have a headphone jack?

  • +1

    $38 now

    Seems a great buy

  • Can't find a store in Sydney with stock??

    • Purple & yellow seem to be available at a few stores…

  • Thanks! Went and got one at my local.

  • …and back up to $47 right on midnight!

    • +1

Which is still a good price

  • You'd think these would be given away as part of a Happy Meal these days.

    • But who wants to pay $75 for a happy meal ;)

  • So interesting MP3 players still so expensive regarding the popularity of streaming music and smartphones.

  • Expired

  • Back to $47

  • +1

    MISSED OUT :(

I guess $44.65 @ Officeworks with a price beat is not so bad
