    • Players 2-4 (Best with 4), Rating 6.8, Weight 1.55
Based on that Very easy to play and reasonably entertaining!

  • Looks like a good game, bought it thanks

  • +1

Probably my favourite board game. Great replayability with a few minor changes to gameplay. Would recommend the 2 expansions as well (or the 'deluxe edition' that includes the base, 2 expansions, in a collectors tin).

  • Looks fun. Bought. Thanks op

  • says A$32.14 for me

    • Same for me.

  • Price has gone up to $32.14

  • Shows up as $32.14 for me

  • It was $25.30 for anyone that didn't see before the price rise.

If you want to support a local retailer: http://www.gameology.com.au/search?q=Machi+Koro also asked them if they can do better (pending).

  • I picked it up before the price rise… read a couple of reviews and sounded fun enough :)

  • Does deluxe version worth the money?

  • The fluxx games are still on sale too: http://www.bookdepository.com/Pirate-Fluxx-Card-Game-Andrew-…

The pirate one is easier to play than the star one.

    • care to give an intro into what these flux games are? Is it a series of games, and do they make for good party games (easy to captivate/hold attention of those less board game enthusiasts) for 5+ people?

      • The general gist of the game is to collect items (called keepers) and to win you need the right combination of them (2 cards) to satisfy a goal (cards). The reason it is called fluxx is because the goal keeps changing (in flux). There are also rule cards and action cards that help make the game more strategic and fun.

It's easy to learn, but requires a bit of memory, tactics and luck to win. I won't say it's a good party game though, exploding kittens is more for parties. This is more in line with monopoly deal (another great game!). I haven't tried fluxx with many players so not sure how that fares. Plenty of youtube videos if you are interested in the gameplay.

        • I liked monopoly deal! haven't played in awhile though. need to dig out my deck!

There were a few flux games, is the pirate one recommended then if I were to get one of the flux games for something more better suited to party games i.e. in terms of number of players? I need to check the rating but hoping to use it for groups of 6-8 players.

  • This is a great game. Would have made some great gifts.
    Unfortunately out of stock :(

never heard of this game… any one played? Looking for more card games or 'easier' games that capture group parties attention more, some of the more detailed board games for us board game enthusiasts are just too intricate for some minds to keep their attention span. Dixit is a common party one but I find abit too boring. Powergrid works, but complicated to explain to newbies. Tsuro of the seas is one easy to pickup one, wondering if this board game - Machi Koro - falls into the easy to learn, fun to play party game category?

    • Try codenames it's a fun party game. One night werewolves is fun also

      • thanks will note down.

    • its back in stock mate.

easy To learn. fun and light. quickish play time. It's Not a party game.

      • yeah, I did notice it wasn't so much a party group game. Might leave it as I have plenty of more 'personal' group games that suit board gamers, the problem is my group of friends aren't enthusiasts or as attention spanning, so the party games are a must until I can find some more patient gamers willing to play the likes of Agricola, pandemic, 7 wonders etc with me without getting bored after 5 minutes of gameplay.

        • I would certainly put Machi Koro down as a gateway game if you're looking to get your friends started.

        • @norkle:

thanks - it is back out of stock so I"ll see if it comes back up. It just seeme dto have 'ok' reviews on board game geeks. Do you remember the max no of players?

By 'gateway' game - something that isn't too simple and party like - i.e. dixit, but more indepth in thinking, strategy, or gameplay, but not to the level requiring the enthusiasm or concentration skills of more 'euro games' (if that's what they call them) that are more indepth?

        • @SaberX:
Regarding Machi Koro, it is a fine gateway, but gamers find little in it. I bought a copy for my children and to bring to my board game club as a gateway for newcomers.

A 'gateway' game is something that entices new players into boardgaming, games like Catan, Carcassonne Ticket to Ride etc are classic gateway games, and go on being popular for a long time. Newer games like 7 Wonders, Dixit and Pandemic are very good gateways, as are King of Tokyo, Tokaido, and Sushi Go. For larger player counts you are right at looking for party games (including Codenames) or social deduction (Werewolf etc, Coup (Reformation expansion for larger groups), Cash n Guns - Edit: as @inasero already said, also One Night Ultimate Werewolf and Avalon). A great gateway for larger counts is Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space (plays up to 8, also on Book Depository), and I'd also recommend Codenames.

        • @norkle:

Thanks. We actually still enjoy ticket to ride once in awhile when busting it out - definitely a good well received game, I still find it has reasonable effort in thinking strategically too. I do have Tokaido but haven't opened/played it - which is interesting. Pandemic is too, although I haven't unwrapped my expansion (have played the expansion elsewhere though).

I think we got the resistance , but a variation of resistance/werewolf - from the same makers, for a friend recently.

I will have to see what ONe Night Ultimate Werewolf is - I don't know if that is the 'narration' werewolf I'm used to/thinking of.

I hadn't heard of Aliens in Outer Space though - so will have to google that one. Great that it holds up to 8 players. That covers most parties/situations, as typically there's between 6-8, at worse there's 9 or 10 but I guess at that stage finding a 10 player game is usually quite hard and it becomes a matter of getting people to pair up.

  • Can confirm code names, one night werewolf and Avalon are great party games. Don't think Machi koro would fall into the category, but it's a great "gateway" game for people looking to get into something a bit more strategic without getting bogged down with too many rules.

    • I'll need to check out code names then, hopefully they host multiple players. the hardest part is the 7-10 players is usually not well serviced by more 'indepth' board games, many are 4 or 5 players max, with the odds 6 player, rarely 7, and very rare for above that!

I think I have played 'werewolf' where you kill villagers during 'the night' if you are a werewolf, and the villagers have to lynch and work out who the werewolf is. However, I assume this is a separate game to one night werewolf?

Avalon sounds familiar, but will have to google and find out what it is! :)
