Sygic GPS Navigation App Worldwide Offline Map EUR 30 (AUD ~$43) + Live Traffic EUR 35 (AUD ~$50)

150

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Found this bargain when trying to buy the AU & NZ map pack for my trip to NZ. Usual price is $35 just for AU & NZ maps alone.
For around $43 you get the entire worldwide offline map and navigation packs covering over 200 countries (North Korea anyone?) with lifetime updates included.
For around $50 you get worldwide map pack plus lifetime subscription to live traffic updates in countries where it is available.

I have used this app last year while driving around the US and I can vouch for it. Map is accurate and the navigation is spot on.
I know google maps is available, but I prefer offline map since I don't have to worry about not having mobile data reception especially in more remote places.

Supports iOS, Android and Windows.

  • Cant see ios version only android?

Don't HERE WeGo (or HERE, or whatever they want to call themselves this year) already provide free offline GPS navigation for Android and iOS?

    • Yeah, they do after they got cut loose from their Windows phone deal (which prompted the name change). I run both apps (picked up Sygic ahead of an overseas trip quite a few years ago), and to be honest don't really have a preference between them. Sygic might be a but more detailed, I guess, but the ease you can use common personal POI's on multiple devices (PC, Android, iOS and Windows phone) across multiple platforms is very useful if you're using a number of phones (honestly not selling drugs) and a laptop for work.

Only question is the long term viability of Here WeGo, although given the number of specials we've seen from Sygic in the last six months you could ask the same of them…

      • +1

Here WeGo would be as viable long term as Google Maps I'd say. It's owned by a bunch of car manufacturers, which I would imagine are using the data to improve their in-car nav systems.

    • They do. Except Sygic is still a better "navigator" product when it is used in cars than Here WeGo maps which is probably contesting more against Google Maps/Navigation. Sygic really is a very polished product in Navigation that is comparable to TomTom or Garmin GPS navigators. Here WeGo is also not very accurate in both Routing (getting from points A to B), street and Point of Interest (POI) names. Found several errors in my home area such as the name of the school across the road.

  • How many thinks google map needs easy navigation control or precise instructions before round about

    • What more do you want for roundabouts?

      • The graphic which shows the roundabout can be wrong
        No speed limits are shown
Sometimes gmaps tries to send you literally around the block for no reason

        • Speed limits implemented in US, so shouldn't be too long before it comes here

        • Buy Sygic.

They have had a "Buy 2" offer, closer to Christmas over the last couple of years. Best price if u can find someone to split with.

      • It has lagging of 2 to 3 second which is not there in HERE

It gives instruction after you cross roundabout

  • I used to love Sygic because it had speed cameras built in but it always took me the wrong way to places. Now I use Waze and never looked back. It has speed cameras, incident reporting, makes you take another route if there is too much traffic or incidents. It beats Google Maps (even though it is owned by Google), Sygic, Tom Tom and best of all it is FREE!

    • does waze provide offline maps?

      • +1

No it doesn't. It is a community based app so meant to be used online so that people can report incidents and it also works out heavy traffic. Give it a go, it is fantastic.

    • Yeah I too have had sygic for a couple years now (my wife hated it on my old OneX because the screen would go black when rotated while wearing polarized sunnies - phone fault, not app), but since upgrading phones I haven't bothered using it again, I've just been using google maps. Installed waze a while back but haven't used it yet, will have to give it a try after your great endorsement! Cheers

      • You won't regret it! Sygic used to take me the wrong way to places in Melbourne so I got fed up. I had the old OneXL :)

  • Google Maps API has speed limits but Google Maps app won't show them which is really annoying.

  • Does this Sygic offer include Speed Camera including database update as i cannot find it in the deal.

  • I've used Sygic for over a year now and love it. I have used the free ones mentioned and they are good too and would recommend them too, so I would not count them out.

If you are after a paid app though, I've found it pretty accurate and rarely had it crash or give me issues.
I use it daily, mainly as a speedo as the highway cops are always on the hunt out here.
I'm in the country and it's good with back roads and it's good when I am down in the city renovating our other house.
It's pretty good with notifications for red light cameras, railway crossings, sharp bends in the road etc…

I paid something like 4 bucks and got Homer Simpson as the voice. It's pretty good and he has some good gags and comments. I have Snoop Dog too.

My fave feature by far is the HUD display. I work night shifts and drive down to the city on weekends at night and back at night.
You sit the phone on the dash (I have a cradle that lays flat) and it reflects stuff like the speed, speed limit, time left, distance to next turn in bold and bright graphics onto your windscreen.
It looks like it is floating just outside your window and I prefer using this as I have to dim the phone when using it in the other cradle as it's a bit bright and in your face at night.

Like I said, some of the free apps are good, but if you are willing to pay for something, I recommend this one.

  • Has Sygic got Head Up Display (HUD) feature? I know Here doesn't. Sorry got my answer.

    • Yes HUD is included in this deal

  • Is one payment for all three OS or one payment per OS?

    • one payment per OS. The purchase is tied to your respective app store accounts.

I can't say I can recommend this product, I bought it for Australia and it constantly takes me the wrong way, is frustrating to use and irritating and buggy. Ironically I actually had enough and deleted it off my phone only this morning after trying to zoom and rotate a map juddered around uncontrollably. Terrible.

    • It was constantly taking me the wrong way too. I only liked the fact it was offline and that the speed cameras were free/included. Tomtom and the others make you pay for them.

  • using pay-pal cost $52.25 for the premium plus traffic sheers

    • for anybody interested this is for one device only. But you can swap it to different devices eg. from phone to tablet and back. When you activate it non the new device with the product code it will automatically delete it from the previous device

      • Since when? It has been fine on multiple devices in the past.

Sygic are also not aware of any change.

Edit: forget link, it is for a product called Sygic Travel.

Here is a link to "Sygic Voucher edition"(Sygic cards bought at a retail store), where it talks about deactivating the old device.
        https://help.sygic.com/en/sygic-voucher-new-edition/purchase…

For the Premium version they only talk about activating, but the heading is "How to transfer a Premium license to a new Android device ?".
        https://help.sygic.com/en/sygic-gps-navigation-for-android/p…

Is the "transfer", simply that, or does it delete the old install as well? It doesn't really say. Considering the other two links explicitly state it is removed off the old device, I am none the wiser. Commonsense would say that as the other two versions do remove the app, it would with this version as well. On the other hand, to not explicitly state that the Premium version is removed, would indicate, that with this version it is not removed(also considering the other versions do not return the same profit to Sygic). If confusion is their goal, they have succeeded.

I found a reference from 2013 with a dead Sygic link where they stated it could be used on 5 devices. Thinking about it, the 5 limit does seem familiar, but the only thing I am sure about, is that it is all as clear as mud.

PS this price is on again until the 21st of November(Today or tomorrow depending on what timezone their ad refers too).
