Cheap Laptop Batteries?

So I need a new battery for my Dell laptop. The official ones on the Dell website cost $155, and it seems I can do better. I'm hesitant however to buy a battery from Hong Kong off ebay… Are there any reputable but cheaper retailers of these things? (I'm in Melbourne if that's important.)

Thanks guys!

  • Why not buy off ebay but try and choose an local seller, like this they start at $60.00

  • Buying genuine will mean you will get a good quality battery with all the extra safety/smart features.

But 3rd party batteries can be good too, and often have very high capacity, I just wouldn't leave one on its own while I was away, it could start a fire.

I bought one off www.DealExtreme.com which has been ok, although others have not had such good experience of chinese batteries, cheap though, about US$50

    I've bought two off dealextreme.com.
One was for an IBM R40E and seems to charge fine and hold that charge but the laptop switches itself off right after booting into windows if I just use battery power. It wont power up unless the battery is removed and replaced or the power is plugged back in. Pulling the plug after booting with the power supply it runs fine.

The other was for an IBM R60E and I have no issues with that one at all.

I've never had a problem with any orders I have placed with them either(touch wood) but I am aware that others arent as lucky. But I am pretty sure they are in the minority.

And that battery you linked is US$ as well on the USA site.
Maybe the AU site has it cheaper incl delivery?

  • How about from dragonext? Although DealExtreme seems cheaper, but I had bought one in dragonext and it works.

Besides, I think the web site of dragonext is more user friendly.
