Nikon Camera

Hello everyone
So basically I'm sick of using my phone as a camera and would love to own a actual camera
My price range is under $700 for a good camera that I can start off with

Now I don't know which brand is better in cameras

Anyone have any suggestions on what to get?? Thankyou

Sony, nikon, canon etc. they all make good cameras. Go to the store and play with whats in your budget and go from there.

  • I have been reading on past posts and Nikon 3300 seems to have good reviews as a first camera

I don't have any experience with pentax/sony etc but you can't go wrong with either Nikon or Canon.
If you don't like spending time processing/shooting in raw, I'd tilt towards Canon because I personally find that Canon DSLRs render skin tones better than Nikon DSLRs.

But one thing that I dislike about Canon is their lack of easily affordable "normal" prime lenses. They have the nifty fifty which ends up being a ~80mm, which I find is too tight for every day shooting, while Nikon has the fantastic 35mm f1.8, a cheap, sharp prime lens that all DX photographers should have in their bag.

If I were you, I'd buy a Nikon D3200/D3300/D5100/D5200 (you can't go wrong with any of these) and the default 18-55 kit lens from a retailer such as E-infinity; they have an Australian online store now, I highly recommend them; cheap and haven't found fault with them.

This will set you back ~$500. If you buy a used one, you'll be able to get more for less than $400.
Spend some time shooting and you can decide what field of photography you like. Macro? Wide angle? Telephoto? Low light? With the spare $200, you're $200 closer to your next lens!

Feel free to ask me more questions

    • Thankyou very much for this feed back ,still on the hunt on good sales

if you aren't specifically looking for a DSLR, you might want to look at mirrorless ones as well, they are way more portable.

Depends what you plan to shoot. I thought I wanted a dslr (I have the 3300), but it turns out what I really wanted was something light, portable, that gave decent shots (decent, not award winning), could get a clear picture in low light, and mainly, had a fast shutter speed. Better suited to a compact probably. Turns out with dslr's you need to spend a lot of time setting up the shot, playing around with histograms and angles and whatever. But for $300, it was worth for me. Figure out what you plan to do with a camera, and use that to guide you.

  • Sony RX100

  • Thsnkyou for al your feedback

I'm not a camera expert so Abit of what is written here Is new to me

firstly I might need to go into a camera store to have a feel of the camera
I'm after a camera with good pictures mainly used for out doors nature and people
I know if I get a camera kit the lenses itself are a dud so I'll have to go out and get a proper lens
I did read that with the 3300 the best lense for it is a 18-55

Where do I go into for cheap camera stores or the internet

    • Fyi, the 18-55 is the kit lens and most definitely is not the best lens for the d3300.

Either way, kit lenses are not duds and can be very good if you know how to use them.

For stores, I suggest e-infinity, they have recently opened up a new Australian online store and have fantastic prices and service.

Go for D5300/5500 for better sensor and focus. Kit lens is fine for your purpose.
