If anybody watches masterchef, you can apparently get woodfire pizza results (minus the wood fired element of course) by using a pizza stone or porous terracotta tile and a conventional oven. The preheated stone cooks the pizza from base up, resulting in a fresh, evenly cooked and toasty pizza base and crust. video from master chef website.

I tried this myself and it works alot better than using a baking tray with foil.
I bought my stone from a homewares store. It only included the stone and the chrome plated serving rack, which is basically handles really. But no pizza rocker (cutter). And i paid $10 for mine. From what i understand, normally these stones are quite expensive (mine was on sale from some ridiculously high price).

This is $6.99 and u get more. Time to get off that dominoes stuff and make ur own fresh pizzas!

Aldi page here has a few more bargains and specials if anyone is interested.

  • Nice one, Woolworths is selling one for $10 this week.

  • Great price, but a relatively small stone compared to others though, especially if you cook pizzas alot. I prefer larger square sized stones.

  • They're also good for baking bread.

  • The pizza cutter looks pretty good

    • Damn straight, I don't even use the stone any more (prefer my bases with a bit of olive oil under them) but the cutter is simply awesome.

      • hmmm, I recently purchased a pizza cooker and I read not to put metal on the stone - this cutter is metal and the stone well is stone, just a thought…

        • If you're worried about it, take it off of the stone before cutting it.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: But but but… the stand is metal too. I think it might just be an arseCoveringExcercise(TM) them saying that about metal.

My kit (from k-mart) said you are supposed to cut and serve the pizza all on the stone.

ur meant to take the pizza off the stone and then cut it…was it seriously that hard to figure out
do u chop ur vegies in the bag that u buy them from, or in the wok u cook it in.

when u go to a pizza shop they take it out and put in on the box, cut it then close the box up.

    • I use a pizza cutter on my stone without problems. I serve the pizza on the stone with the attached stand. Too much effort to take it off then put it back on.

Biggest problem I have is the cheese getting stuck to the stone but not a big deal.

      • I got a stone recently too and have the same problem, cleaning it. In particular, how do I get the burnt cheese off? I scrap as much off as possible but there's still some left.

I know about not washing it with detergent etc…

        • I just use a little bit of soap and warm water. No problems. Not sure why these pizza stone companies think they are selling delicate china.

          • @neil: "Because it is porous it does absorb other things such as soap and oil, which means that they should never be washed with a detergent, only with cool wate"

After I take the pizza off I put the stone back in the oven. The heat dries out the gunk left behind and then I just rub off the loose stuff. The stone looks ugly but doesn't affect the taste of the pizza. Been using them for a couple of years like this.

    • Do you always jump to conclusions without understanding comments?
You put the metal on the stone to take it off, not cut it..

  • +1

We use ours regularly and take the pizza off the stone to cut it on a chopping block, as it goes straight back into the oven to make the next pizza. I know we paid more than this, so good deal!

Also think the Pasta machine is a good deal for $14.99. Will be getting one of them in the morning!

  • Just got back from Aldi with my pizza stone (larger than expected) and Pizza machine!

    • Pizza machine? Now that would be great!

Did you get the manual pasta machine? What's the quality of it?

      • Yep, got the manual one for $14.99. Looks pretty good and is a decent weight. Will give it a test on the weekend with the kids ^_^

        • Pizza machine, now that would be cool, i got the pizza cutter looks great and the pasta machine.

The Milk Frother for $24.99 was the best though its easily better than the aerocinno and that costs more than $100.00

          • @Mikinoz: See what happens when you type too fast :-O

  • Damn, my store sold out within an hour :(

  • Epic fail! Tried FOUR.. YES FOUR different Aldi store today (Thursday 17th) and all were sold out except edgecliff which only have one that had been opened and the metal tray part nicked. Aldi specials are a joke.
