Laptop for light-moderate gaming (mainly WoW)

Hi All,

My SO's laptop has been doing the grind for a good 4 or 5 years now and has recently decided it no longer enjoys allowing her to play WoW. So we are looking for a replacement.

I've been looking around the 1-1.3k mark as aside from wow she doesn't really play games but I'd like her time spent in WoW to be enjoyable.

The main desirables are a 1920*1080+ screen and dedicated graphics capable of running WoW. An SSD is also worth mentioning but I hear a lot of "DIY it afterwards and safe a small fortune" so I'm quite happy to have that as an option.

I've looked at a couple of options below and would like some opinions on these or better alternatives/pricing.

$1099 - Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-572G-75AJ 15.6" i7-6500U 8GB 1TB GTX945M

$1199 - ASUS X550JX-DM244T 15.6" Notebook i5-4200H 8GB 1TB GTX950M

$1299 - ASUS G771JW-T7187T i7-4750HQ/16G/2TB/17.3"FHD/Win10 64bit/2G GTX960M

Greatly appreciate any guidance!

    probably stop her playing WoW.

I'm hardly in a position to tell her not to play when I also play ^_^.

She enjoys some of the social aspects of the game and has friends that she does dungeons and raids with.

Thanks for the feedback but it's not really helping me select a device for her =P.

  • I'm glad you specifically named WoW as her game of choice. In my experience as a tech (and a WoW player in the past) not only will you need a decent laptop with decent specs, but due to the length of time that WoW players play in one sitting, you'll need one that has excellent cooling.

It really is a case of you get what you pay for, but out of the models above I'd definitely get the ASUS machines over the Acer. Also check out MSI gaming machines, they're good bang for buck and have decent cooling.

  • Maybe some sales on the Asus ROG?

  • ASUS G771JW has the best processor and GPU out of the three.

Went with the $1299 option. So far so good!

    • It's always a good idea to get the best graphics card you can afford to prevent it being outdated too quickly. The GT960 is MUCH better than the GT945 or 950.Good choice. Happy gaming!

    • Can I be your "wife" too?

      • I'm pretty sure there are laws that prevent that in Australia…

That being said, one is enough of a balancing act.
