  • How many grams per pod?

You pay for what you get. They don't taste as good as Nespresso. I'm suffering through the 50 I bought.

    • I got these on last deal few weeks back. I thought they were quite ok…..much better than the coffee with bite deal that followed shortly after.
I had some pods that had a burnt taste to the coffee, threw them away, unfortunately, don't remember which one it was now…..

    • I too have found that many aftermarket pods don't taste the same as Nespresso.

I don't mind the Republica Organic pods from Coles if I need some in a pinch.

I used to get these make your own capsules and grind my own. These empty capsules cost 12 cents each. ( see link below )
At about 5-5.5 grams per pod , after wastage ( depends how neat you are )you can make about 150 pods per kg. So you can grind your own and just fill these up to suit your taste. Some will argue it defeats the purpose but you can always have some of both i.e. nespresso brand, supermarket brand and make your own brand. You can also buy re-usable capsules however I find these hold too little coffee in them as they are a bit smaller. maybe they have improved since I bought them a few years ago. I re-used mine more than 30 times.

    • Wow didn't know such thing existed. We tried to make our own fillable once and failed miserably.

      • There is a bit of trial and error in getting the grind correct. If you buy pre-ground you can just pack it tighter or softer to get it right. I usually make 10 or so at a time. I just put some ground coffee in a lunch box, scoop the pod into the coffee and push against the sides of the container and it basically done.
Using this system, if you pay $15 for your coffee a kg it will cost about 22 cents a pod for disposable pods or if you can't be bothered then give these guys a go or put beans in mouth and add hot water, grind it up and snort it or whatever floats your coffee snob boat.

    • This is interesting, never heard about these before.

May look into it further as you can often get the 1kg bags of Vittoria or Lavazza coffee 1/2 price from Coles or Woolies.

I sometimes use the Lavazza preground coffee in my cheap espresso machine, and whilst it is not the best, it is better than the Nespresso coffee IMO.

    • Labour time involved?

      • +1

They don't take much time, however lets assume it takes 6 minutes to make 10 pods. You can get cheap pods lets say 45 cents each at supermarket so you are saving 23 cents a pod.
I usually use 2 pods per coffee. If I have 2 coffees a day that is 4 pods. 28 pods per week = 1456 per year.
        1456 * 0.23 = ~ $335.
I usually use more though for friends etc.. So I save about $350 a year on coffee.
Mind you, obviously you can do the maths if you have more than one person in the house who drinks you could save quite a bit more, sort of like re-using toilet paper, tissues and rare african breeds of antelopes to cut your lawn for you with oompaloompas as slave labour..

    Vendor in title please.

  • received yesterday. tried a couple of the pods this morning. very reasonable in terms of taste and strength. I'm quite satisfied. the 2 varieties I've tried are better than most of the supermarket pods I've had previously. would buy again.

  • Tried one of the pods and they were horrible! Tastes like cardboard.
