Now if only they list a discounted price for the OLED55E6T.

  • If only they came with Android TV…

  • +11

If only another manufacture would invest in OLED. Some competition would help bring down the ridiculous price of OLED.

    • +1

      second that,

I believe Panasonic will in 2017, but it has been a long wait.

    • +1

Panasonic, Phillips, Grundig, Loewe all have OLED sets available or coming.

But they all source their screens from LG.

      • +1

Yes that may be the case, but it doesn't mean they will have the same quality as the LG OLED panels. Panasonic picture processing is way ahead of what LG can do.

Also the increase in manufactures will still have an affect in prices, whether they have the same panel or not.

        • Have a look at what price points those manufactures are releasing their sets at. I don't see a price war coming until Samsung or another manufacturer makes their own OLED screens. Agreed reg. Panasonic processing.

        • -1

You obviously haven't seen a recent Pana screen. Since the end of their plasma range they went with budget screens and have continued doing so. I'd take LG over most brands and put them up with Sony really.

        • @Phreakuency:

Yes I have, and that's why I haven't bought one and have remained on the plasma bandwagon. But that's not saying they do not have the know how to build a good TV.

See the following article for further details:

          http://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2016/09/05/new-panaso…

        • @Phreakuency:
I have to disagree with Phreakuency. I have purchased 2 Panasonic TVs (one in 2014 and the other this year) after comparing free-to-air transmission in-store against LG, Samsung and Sony. Panasonic HD and UHD picture is definitely superior IMHO.

        • @ifonlyiwasyounger:

Panasonic HD and UHD picture is definitely superior

… when viewing low resolution non-critical content?

        • @llama:
          … "non-critical content"?

        • @ifonlyiwasyounger:

I meant "non-critical" as in I couldn't work out what the word is for content where the quality of the image doesn't really matter anyway. Where the picture will look pretty much universally mediocre no matter what TV you view it on.

I said that because you'd mentioned that Pana was better for watching FTA. However that's really only comparing the FTA Tuners, rather than the quality of the panels themselves.

Also, I was under the impression that FTA is not exactly "high bitrate", right?

So how would the TVs have compared if you had have used something high quality like (say) a Bluray?

        • @llama:
The reason I referred to FTA when comparing different TVs in store is because it is perhaps viewed more often than DVD or internet streaming. Also it is readily available in-store to compare on TVs from different manufacturers.
I understand your point about Blu-ray. All I can say is having compared the same Blu-ray movie on my neighbour's expensive UHD Samsung, I still find the picture on my UHD Panasonic a little sharper.
Having said that, it is largely personal preference.

If only this TV wasn't more expensive than my car.

    • In that case, people buy watches and jewelry that are more expensive than your car!

      • You could also buy a happy meal from Mcdonalds that would be more expensive than my car.

  • +1

If only someone could give me one for a birthday present.

  • +8

    If only
    I had a pony
    I'd call him Tony
    My TV is a sony

    • +2

But the Sony was a phoney,

      And the pony was boney,

Which all just made you moany.

      • -1

You guys should get a room..

        Might end up in matrimony

  • How's the burn in? My Samsung phones still get it sadly.
I really want OLED to work, this TV sounds amazing and cheaper than I'd expect but still way too pricey. Unless I was stupid well off, I wouldn't buy.
Still this would probably have an even better pic than my 65" Plasma

      • "Prone to temporary image retention after displaying static images"

Seems all the good tech (plasma, OLED) suffers with it :/

      • Wow it supports some amazing features but that lag!
        "4k @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 + HDR = 67.5 ms "

That is of course beast mode though, in a few years all gamers will want 4k, 60hz (or higher) and 4:4:4

        • Yep - 4k, 60Hz, 4:4:4 and HDR with < 20ms input lag.

  • +1

    Isn't 20% OFF $7995 actually $6396. How do you get $6995?

    • +1

      Max discount is $1000.

      • ah my mistake then

  • -6

The fact that LG manufactures and sells a $7000 television just shows how many rich (and easily led) people there are in the world.

The funny thing is that many of the people buying such things probably complain that they cannot afford to save up for a deposit on their own home.

    • +5

That's not entirely a fact and isn't funny when you think what you ought to deserve in life, yet might be of a new generation sentenced to forgo pretty much everything for decades just to buy an overpriced shoebox, including affording to have kids in your fertile years. A TV is considered a durable item, and while this is expensive, for a couple who will get 5-10 years out of it, it certainly isn't something worth condemning their purchase as innappropriate.

      • yet might be of a new generation sentenced to forgo pretty much everything for decades just to buy an overpriced shoebox,

        Oh the sacrifice…

A TV is considered a durable item

        ROFL, WOT?

for a couple who will get 5-10 years out of it, it certainly isn't something worth condemning their purchase as innappropriate.

I am not condemning anybody. However the reality of the situation is that nobody became wealthy by purchasing $7000 televisions. They are not an investment. Ever.

And here we are on a site called Ozbargain where people quibble that a $2.90 bottle of water is "not a deal".

  • +1

Wow good to see this model already dropping to just under $7K. I'm hoping this will drop to $4K around March/April next year when LG release the next model - that will be the perfect time to buy.

    • The previous ex display oleds are going for $5k so hopefully more for these models when they go eol !!

    • Actually i thought the time to buy would be around Christmas and Boxing Day as that's the time when prices are slashed.

  • Bought 2, had to take out a mortgage to fund. Thanks.

  • At this price, I could buy 10 Aldi TVs!!!. You know I'm just kidding right?!?…lools
