Star Wars Vintage Series AT-AT $199.98 @ Toys R Us

190

Gotta love new old stock.

This is the vintage collection At-at from star wars, easily one of the coolest star wars items to own, comes with a bunch of figures, makes sounds but most of all is just freaking cool.

These normally have people asking 200-300 on the seconds market for any at-at with the seller trying to gouge you as they do not come up much and end up in many collectible shops north of $300 second hand.

So for $199.98 brand new it's not too bad at all.

comes with a bunch of figures

It says it comes with a speeder bike and the AT-AT driver

    • +1

Yep, a bunch of one. :)

      • +1

According to the picture on the front you also get the Jungle scene of Endor, not to mention Darth Vader, Chewy, Ewoks, Lea and some Rebel scum too!

        • Probably says "Action figures sold separately" somewhere in small print ;)

  • Still seems a bit expensive, especially as it doesn't come with all the figurines. Does look cool though.

So this one is vintage old stock? Or newly made using old tooling etc?

    • +4

At a guess, pretend vintage. I doubt very much that TRU has had stock laying around for 30-40 years and it is still in pristine condition..

      • +3

They are from 2012 so pretend.

        • +1

it's vintage collection, so the 2012 named version, much better quality than some of the crap being released at the moment, i've already seen the 2016 Rogue One At-Act that is going to retail at $450 here…. it's junk.

I'd recommend hunting down the retired Lego version instead 75054

AT-AT on icy tundra I believe, but redwood forest, nuh uh.

    • +3

There was an AT-AT on Endor in Return of the Jedi.

      • I thought there was 2. Plus quite a few AT-STs

      • +2

I'm saying it's implausible due to vegetation and terrain and poorly thought through by the Empire war strategists. It would be like ED-209 with stairs, but don't anyone stop the neg stacks on. Spent a fair bit of time arond Muir woods and the redwoods and uneven terrain would prevail.

    • Watched Return of the Jedi today. AT-AT on the forest moon of Endor, yeah uh.

this one is different again, it is painted differently to that photo (check the feet)

  • one of the reviewers on the TRU item listing says that they paid $130 for it. Soo keen on this, but no space to display it :(

    • +1

Dude i'd love one for 130…. i wanna know where they got it for that price, i'd get two for entrance to the mancave, that would be freaking awesome like a pair of guard dogs.

      • That reviewer is "By Brian from Auburn, MA". That is, an American.

Edit, sorry didn't see other reply :)

    • +1

that review is from ToysRUs USA so thats a USD130.

Doesnt come with the ewoks despite showing them on the box, but still has a few figures.

    • That box shows the same is the TRU one, only figure is the AT AT driver.
The Box on rebelscum says At AT, Driver and speeder bike included, all other figures sold seperate

Ah well considering all the resellers on gumtree want 250 out of one with no figs and missing guns was still well worth my 200 :)

        • Yeah, good price.

usually the collector want genuine original releases and not the new remakes - thats why the high prices for the old ones.

        • +1

@PVA: to be honest i've got both, I actually prefer the legacy series over all else.

It's one of those things where some things get better with age but some want what they grew up with.

The original (aka vintage series) are cool and iconic, and many makes since like POTF2 series and so on use the same deisgns, some even cut out features like the 2000 model y-wing and tie interceptor, b-wing have no electronics, but then you get stuff like this and the legacy falcon and its bloody mindblowing.

Legacy falcon new in box these days around the hype for TFA was going for around 900 and all the scumbags on the collectors groups were trying to get 500 out of a beaten up legacy falcon with bits missing and no figures and getting it.

Last AT-AT that came up on gumtree was a POTF2 version (the smaller one, second issue) and was asking 250 with missing chin cannons.

Someone ponied up and bought it off them within 20 minutes of it being listed on gumtree.

Theres a guy who runs one of the star wars trading post groups and runs a bunch of trade stalls and was featured on the project and some of the prices he charges for his gear will really make you scratch your head.

Won't surprise me if he's picking up a few of these to sit on, im not gonna be surprised to see a few of these on gumtree for 400 either.

Just the world we live in.

        • @acex1138:
          Yeah, crazy.

I also saw a show (US based) where some dude had a fantatsic collection but was getting married so was selling and stuff he paid heaps for in reality he wasnt getting it back.
We have a fair few old star wars lego sets we bought our son when he was little, he's now 18, looking at the collector sites they want a heap of money compared with what we paid, but I bet I wouldnt get anything for them.

@PVA: I've been collecting and trading for over 23 years, when someone gives a me "what its worth" especially if they consider themselves and expert, I always ask what they would buy it in for.

You always get drastically different numbers.

Perfect example, lets say I have a copy of Crash bandicoot black label for ps1 which was going for up to $120 6 months ago, had a copy listed for $50 on gumtree, I wasnt making much off it, came in a bundle I bought I was just happy to get back back most of the cost of the bundle.

Young a-hole I know who is a notorious reseller in my area started bashing me with requests to buy it from me for next to nothing, within a few days, I get offered 30 for it from a guy who claims he's been looking for a copy for ages, sick of all the people asking stupid amounts for it just wants to enjoy it with his kid and show him what it was like back in the day.

Within 12 hours of him grabbing it he'd whacked it back on gumtree for $75 FIRM no offers, with no manual, turns out it was the same a-hole who posts insanely expensive "collectibles" and claims to be an expert and berrates anyone who disagrees with his values on fb / gumtree, yet undervalues the crap out of anyone else. A-hole even tried to list the manual on its own for $40.

For years the AT-AT was my white whale, i'd wanted one and everytime one came up south of 150, all the resellers / collector a-holes in adelaide would jump on them or cut in, I had one reserved several times, and within 20 minutes of it going up, me calling the guy agreeing to buy it, to arrive to find out someone else had offered another $20 on it, or my favorite one where another a-hole collector/reseller dude got told sorry it's sold, but I have other gear available, got to the house before I did and claimed to be me and so his wife sold him the at-at.

Went up on gumtree within 2 hours for $350.

These same people are the ones that you do a "what's it worth" post and all of them want to tell you its worth not nearly as much as you'd think, or now they use a new tactic, over inflating the values to keep you from selling and keep their prices up by undercutting the value they've given the person.

Theres even a new breed of guys which i'm extremely not fond of, they call themselves "brokers" where they "expert" value items for people, then sell them on their behalf, the few i've met who do this claim they get a tiny amount of money out of it but it gives them market control on pricing, all you need is one or two people that you successfully sell their item for a ridiculous price for singing your praise and the die is cast.

Pretty scummy that it comes with a speeder but no scout trooper.
