What's a Guy Got to Do to Get a Google Opinions Rewards Survey?

I racked up over $30 through Google Opinions Rewards and used to get regular surveys, however, I haven't gotten one in months.

Meanwhile, my wife is getting them every couple days.

I always take my phone with me when I go out, go shopping etc - so what gives?
Anyone else out there in the same boat?

    Cashrewards Google rewards survey

You're looking in the wrong place 😀

    • +1

Ok - you win. My bad. Fixed now.

  • +4

Cashrewards is a cashback program, not surveys..

  • They probably don't care about you anymore, not interested in what you're interested in or what you're doing

  • If it is really Google Rewards I'm in that boat….installed months ago and all I get is a we'll contact you to do a survey when you become eligible message. I'm wondering if it's because I have auto-locate turned off - turned it on a couple of times when out and about though.

    • +2

That's where you're going wrong. I get daily surveys asking if I've been to shops nearby to my location history.

  • +3

One time I reported the app for not giving enough surveys and coincidentally I got one 2 days later.

Travelling with GPS on high accuracy has always worked for me. I always get asked if I visited the following stores and how I rate the experience. Going to a Westfarmers gave me plenty.

    • +1

Same here since I complained I have had 4 surveys over the last few weeks, before then hadn't had a survey in months.

    • +5

Coles and Bunnings always seem to give me surveys.

      Westfield is always good too.

  • +1

Same! All of a sudden none for the last couple of months.

    • +4

      Did you answer honestly?

      • +6

You're right - honesty is a big one (actually, it's "consistency").

They use 'tests' to try and ensure that honest answers are given.

So if your answers aren't consistent between similar questions, it's assumed that you're not telling the truth - and therefore, less surveys for you.

      • +1

Mostly all the surveys I receive are asking for my shopping experience at my local Coles, so it is easy be honest about these.

  • Turn on location services and go into stores like bunnings, coles, woolies, maccas, good guys. Normally a couple of days later you'll receive a notification with a survey to fill.

Also, setting yourself as a young woman while you sign up gets you more surveys but you can't change this once you register, I've tried.

    • Isn't that illegal in some way, that they know what stores you've been to? I know it's probably not but it doesn't seem right.

      • It's just based on your GPS data. They don't "know" you've been into a store, they know you've close enough to it to have potentially gone in. This is why when you get the survey you'll have a few options to chose from (ie. "Which of these places have you visited?").

        • actually Google does know with very good accuracy all the places you've been if you check your maps history. They judge it on staying in the area of a shop or venue long enough. This is how they generate those charts of when a business is popular in the day and how long people usually stay for. Very valuable metadata when thinking about targeted advertising

        • @coolhand:

They judge it on staying in the area of a shop or venue long enough.

This is what I said. They don't "know" you were in a shop, they take a very educated guess based on your GPS data.

        • @johnno07: ah okay semantics I guess "close enough to have potentially gone in" just seemed a little weak to me. In my case they have essentially perfect accuracy including not registering if I was just sitting on a bench right out the front of a store for 10 mins, but maybe it's my location settings

        • Thanks for the answer johnno07. You could probably tell a lot from that data.

  • They track you… hard… is it really worth the few bucks… sad.

Lots of marketing is focusing on women these days I assume that's why.

    • +11

They track you… hard… is it really worth the few bucks… sad.

      But 20 cents :)

    • +12

they track you anyway…might as well get paid some coin.

      • That's my thinking - they already track me, why not get something out of it - I've gotten $90+ in total

Went to a restaurant the other weekend that we normally don't visit
Few days later, I get a survey if I've been to this particular restaurant (plus some other places as a test)
It also linked to Maps reviews and asked if I wanted to leave a review for this place which I found pretty good

    • exactly, Google tracks you. I once login to Google+ and it actually had my previous day's itinerary.

      • I once login to Google+ and it actually had tomorrow's itinerary!

when i started playing pokemon go my surveys sky rocketed.

  • Same here.. No surveys in the last 2-3 months now.

  • same here. And I'm a woman :(

  • how to get this survey ? what do i need to install or subscribe ?

  • Got like 7 bucks worth during August with one every few days, getting zilch now.

  • I can't find a link for the instructions that I followed, but clearing cache on the app and google play store (I think), then uninstalling and reinstalling gave me a decent amount after doing that ($5 worth over the following month).

Anecdotal of course, but seemed to work for me.

  • Might want to try Myopinions.com.au if you want regular surveys. Doesn't pay amazingly though highest rate is $3.50 for a 30 min or so survey.

    • -5

      $7.50/hour

      • +4

        $7.

I use four paid survey sites. myopinions.com.au, opinionworld.com.au, toluna and pureprofile. I started only with myopinions then tried the other three around April. Sometimes you get lucky and get a really high value survey. I can easily get enough for 2 dollars a day. I used to aim for three dollars a day but it got too onerous, I got a dog and started walking a lot more lol. Don't forget that these "earnings" are tax free, so its worth it when you are at home watching mindless tv which is crap anyway. I'm happy to write a more detailed review of the sites if you are interested.

    • Which site would you say is the best? Do you use an alternate email address for these survey sites? I'm worried about spam. Thanks for the info, might sign up myself.

      • Myopinions is the best. because you get 20cents worth, even at rejection. Redemption by paypal is really quick.
Opinion world I think is run by the same people as my opinions as I often double up on surveys. Redemption by paypal is quick.
Pureprofile looks the best but can only redeem 50 bucks in any 60 day period and they pay via bank deposit which can be a 3 or 4 week wait.
Toluna has really high rejection rate for me. Sometimes you can get a really good run with toluna. Redemption via paypal usually takes a couple of weeks.

Nah I use all the same email, never really care about spam.

        • I use the same email for Toluna, Opinion World and Pureprofile and I've never had a problem with spam.

        • Thanks. I just signed up with MyOpinions but I don't think it works for me.
I'm a cheapskate and hardly spend anything on consumer products, therefore have very little net worth to marketers, hence why I keep getting survey rejections. I could lie about my responses but I don't really want to do that and they will find out eventually. Not worth the effort for me but good luck with it anyways.

        • @wolfenator87:

mate I lie all the time. Apparently I'm a hardcore gambler, play sport all the time, drink all the time etc. Even though you are a "cheapskate" (so am I) you still do groceries which is very important.

        • +1

Gosh the hourly rate for doing these surveys is pretty bad… tried doing some at My Opinions, but it's effectively $6.80/hour at best, possibly less if you’re slow and/or subtract the time for the initial profile setup (which only pays 50 cents effectively, but takes >= 20 minutes). And you can only withdrawn in $10 or $20 increments.

Also the first survey My Opinions gave wanted me to install some weird user-tracking browser add-on in Firefox… I was like "WTF? I don't think so!!" because add-ons can do all sorts of malicious or invasive or insecure things (spy on you, rewrite web page content, and so forth), so you don't want untrusted add-ons anywhere near your browser.

        • @nickj:

Yes mate. You will not get rich doing this, that is for sure. Don't forget this is all tax free so it's actually "worth" a bit more if you want to get anal. I used to aim for 3 bucks a day and I was able to achieve that, but it did get too onerous. I've never had to put an add on in my browser. All that being said, I realise its not for everyone but with interest rates so low and tv so damn crap why not.

        • @ukulele: Can I ask do interest rates have to do with it?

    • I used to use Pureprofile a good 15 years ago. Tried to log on just then as you reminded me but no good, my email is no longer associated with their site. I would've had quite a stock built up. Also hadn't logged into my myopinions account for an entire year but that's all good - currently have $35 but I transferred quite a lot to rewardscentral back when they were linked and you still could do that.

      • Ah back in the day MO and rewards central were linked!!! Geez that was a while. What did you do with the 35 bucks? Cash out to paypal?

        • Just did some more MO surveys and have $40 now. I'll just get a gift card for Coles. Always gotta do shopping anyway. At rewardscentral I currently have $350 but have transferred $200 in the past to my bank account, upgraded to gold using points, donated to charity… I've been a member since 2002 and I actually don't do much online shopping so I haven't accumulated any money via reward partners. Just with daily use and the ebank

  • Usually the survey companies can't get enough men to answer their surveys so you should be flooded with invitations. You've got a much better chance of staying in a survey rather than being booted out by demographic quotas.

I suggest trying a different survey company.

You could also try checking that your email and other settings are correct in your account of the existing survey company.

you might have a battery saver application preventing it from running. For example, my Samsung Note 4 "optimised" the app for power saving until I white-listed it.

  • +3

I work at McDonalds and I always have my location turned on. every time i go to work i earn roughly $1.5-$2 per shift. it thinks i have been there more than once a day. google credits currently sitting at $38 due to never buying anything on the plastore :)

    • +1

Nice. If I ever become homeless I'm gonna sit outside maccas for a week and rack up some free credit :)

  • I get a survey every day, usually in the mornings around 9am WST. I try and answer them within a few minutes of the survey. Almost all the surveys are the same question. Asking me if I have visited a list of places, and every-time there is a place on there that I actually went to. I noticed that if you say that you have not visited any on the list, you only get $0.10, but if you select a place, its around $0.30 reward. Been going for over a year now.

Maybe if you uninstall and re-install the app, it will pick up again.

  • I get them all the time, mostly it just asks me if I went to Woolworths. I have $30 in credit and no idea what to spend it on. can anyone suggest something useful? I don't really need any music or movies and I borrow ebooks from the library.

    • +1

I used my wife's credit (as I don't get surveys anymore) on a Lastpass subscription - which is would classify as extremely useful :-)

      • dammit didnt even think to use mine on lastpass (paid cash), thanks for tip

    • +1

Save it for games and apps when they go on special. $30/0.20 = 150 apps. Based on average sale price of 20c.

  • I get one every day for a visit to a woolies/aldi/maccas visit i did a day or two before

but you have to have location services/history turned on in your phone and gmail account

  • Have you updated the app? I was in the same boat, after I updated, I started getting the surveys daily again.

  • Are you only able to use the credits in the Google Play store or can you cash it out?

    • Only in the Play Store

  • I get them all the time. What's funny is there's nothing to spend the money on. These days I don't use any paid apps (other than the one or two I already own).

  • I had the same problem with Google Rewards , didn't get a survey for months i think the problem was i use an autostart manager to try save some battery power " stops apps starting when they like " , once i let google rewards start automatically i have been receiving surveys again .

  • I forgot to mention, if you're rooted and running adaway, you'll need to whitelist a few urls to make it work again

  • mine stopped giving me surveys for almost 6 months now, initially i racked up about $12, it was really nice. but then it just stopped. I assumed it's because there are now millions of people on it so they dont give them out anymore.

But i did some reasearch online and i seems some people get them on weekly or monthly basis and some just stopped.

  • nexus phones get more surveys.
if i don't get surveys, i open the app to look for surveys.. It may be coincidence or not, but i get a survey in a day or two..
most of my surveys are for local ALDI.
and for bunnings whenever i visit the store.

  • I would check app permissions and location services. My Mrs didnt get any for some time, turned out an app had changed the permissions for GOR. Deleted and reinstalled the app, corrected the permissions (something was turned off - cant recall what) and started getting surveys the very next day.
