Cheap Petrol/Fuel

Hey everyone.

I was just wondering when everyone thinks the cheapest day for buying fuel/petrol is.
I've heard Tuesday and Thursday are the best days, but I'd like some tips from those more in the know.

Is there any time of day that's best? I would imagine afternoon's would be best, probably around 1pm. Most people would be working or in school.

Another question. Anyone know anything about these Ethanol based fuels, such as Caltex Bio E10 Unleaded? If I used that stuff, will it damage my car over time? Will it perform badly? etc. It's much cheaper, but I've been avoiding it. It feels wrong. Anyone in the know should speak up…. please? :)

Thanks :)

  • I use motormouth. As well as a soft foot (learnt the hard way).

E10 can be hit or miss. Depends on the car/engine.

    • miss…dont use for 6 cylinders~ or V6+

V4 should be fine…but use non-E10 once every month

      • Who makes a V4?

        • Isn't V4 your normal 4 cylinder engine? As in it's a 4 cylinder engine that's not horizontally opposed or called a boxster or anything like that.

          • @Trance N Dance: That was my point. No such thing as a v4. It's a 4 cylinder.

            • @AntMan76: In V6 doesn't the V mean the cylinders are placed in a V shape, and because 4 cylinder vehicles are the norm they don't have to use V4 cause there's no need to advertise it.

              • @Trance N Dance: exactly…just cbs type cylinders…but now you just made me

                • @bob_wangkar: A normal 4 cylinder is a straight (or inline) 4. Looking from the top down all 4 cylinders are in a straight line.

A V6 is where 3 cylinders are place at a V angle to the opposite 3 cylinders.

      • Actually it can be hit or miss, not just miss as you indicated. There are MANY cars that can run completely fine on E10. Look at the manufacturers website of your vehicle and they may often have some information regarding it.

It's generally more older vehicles which may suffer issues or vehicles with more fragile engines.

        • There are cars in Brazil driving completely on ethanol :P

          • @Trance N Dance: That's right. Brazil is a major player in the world of ethanol and soon Thailand will join them. Most of their cars are manufactured locally and are designed to run on a 50/50 mix.

  • +1

    It's now Friday morning.

    • no.. pretty sure it's Wednesday afternoon. Around 3pm

      • I guess it depends on area, still wednesday arvo/thursday morn for my area.

        • It was a joke….don't worry…

  • Thanks for the help everyone.

I've been watching MotorMouth and it looks like it ranges from Tuesday to Friday. Tuesday is the initial big drop, with Wednesday to Friday morning steadying.

  • Friday in Melbourne too. for the last month ive been filling up for 1.115(with 4Cdiscount) @ Coles for the last 3 weeks.

    • which station? i only got 1.15(with 4c discount) T.T

  • I don't trust E10, even though the price seems cheap per liter, I seem to use more fuel in my day 2 day driving. So most of the time I feel I break-even or actually ended up paying more. THus I rather go with RON91 unleaded.
