  • That's a $58 carton here in WA!
    Link

    • Yep, it is quite the deal!!!

      • +2

        Let's see..

        24 * 345ml * (4.2%-1.15%) = 252.54ml taxable alcohol @ $47.95 per litre = $12.11

        $1.82 - GST
        $12.11 - Alcohol excise tax.

        For a total of $13.93.

So Dan Murphy's gets $6.07 for the carton.

        • Nod bad if u consider after the 14th they probably cant sell it anyways since it goes beyond BB date hence the sell off.

        • So Dan Murphy's gets $6.07 for the carton.

Can you expand on this a bit?

I would have thought Dan's had already paid Matilda Bay, including the excise. So Dan's profit/loss would depend entirely on what they bought the beer for.

        • Ah, you're that alco dude who thinks he's a businessman ? The one who makes fake phone calls in a loud voice, at the public phones. You should have said hello.

The one who makes fake phone calls in a loud voice

Yes, the one with the red Nokia 6210.

          You should have said hello.

I didn't want to interrupt that argument you were having with the paper napkin. It sounded personal…

    • +1

Anyway, how good are these pale ale.

      I like them…

  • A mate just confirmed there are 20 left at Chelsea

    • -2

      $40 I rekon too..

      • No they are $20 there, a mate just brought 5 slabs. Give Dan's a call to confirm if you want

        • -1

          Whats the BB date?

        • @Gavman: I don't have the slabs with me at the moment so I am unsure

        • -2

@slimdavy5: Others have said 14/10. Beer tends to go flat after its BB so I wouldn't be stocking up for Xmas. It may not be very nice to drink by then.

        • +1

@Gavman: Not necessarily, I have tap king beer that are 9 months past exp date and they are fine. Guess it all depends on the beer

        • +1

@slimdavy5: Really depends on how its bottled and the ingredient used, alcohol content etc. I read that beer may over time will oxidize, both from oxygen introduced during packaging, but also through the release of oxygen from compounds previously oxidized in the beer. The oxygen causes the beer to stale, producing tones of sherry, paper, cardboard. Hop aromas are muted, and hop beta acids oxidize to produce an unrefined bitterness. Other forms of staling can lead to a soap taste.

a mate just brought 5 slabs

Did he pay for them? o_0

        • @Scrooge McDuck: haha well played

        • @slimdavy5: This might be way off topic, but the reason the tapking stuff lasts so long is because the container isn't transparent (and it is usually kept in the fridge). Beer in glass bottles tend to go downhill pretty quickly when they go past their BB date, especially if they aren't stored in the dark. Cans on the other hand will (usually) be fine 6-9 months past the BB date. Plus, the tapking uses CO2 to dispense the beer which helps keep the stuff fresh in the bottle. An example: I bought a keg from a pub for a house party a few years ago and used my trusty party pump to dispense the beer all night long. The keg was kept in a 44 gallon drum full of ice and was kept cold all night and for the next 5 days. By day 5 the beer was tasting off because the party pump uses air to dispense, filling the keg with O2 which in turn skunked the beer.

  • Bought this a few weeks ago (at $40 i think). Pretty average beer but good for this price.

Just bought 2 slabs at Ascot Vale store for $20 each, looks like there's about 25-30 left.
Expiry is 14/10, lucky for me I'm having people around on Saturday.
    Thanks!

    • Expiry is 14/10
I'm having people around on Saturday.

      Saturday is 15/10 though !!!

    • Woo hoo, glad someone else confirmed the deal :)

  • Not a bad drop to quench the thirst after mowing the lawns etc. Nothing special but worth it at $20.

    • Water isn't a bad drop to quench thirst either!

      • Water doesn't get you pissed though!

  • +4

    $20 is $20

  • +2

Just got one from glen. They still have a full pallet, best before 14 Oct though. You can use the GC bought from amex deal today which brought this down to $16 per case.

    • So if beer exceeds BB date does it tend to go flat hence taste like bum the more you leave it?

      • +1

commerical beers (like this) which are pressurised with CO2 (to make it fizz) & sealed in glass with a crown seal and won't go flat for quite awhile after the BB date. Oxygen doesn't get in with glass & a crown seal (it can in plastic bottles).

The beer will taste the same this week as it will next week and next month. It'll almost the same in January.

These (sweeter) hop flavour driven beers (as opposed traditional malt flavour driven beers where hops bitterness is used to counteract the sweetness) will actually get a bit better with age as the hop bitterness fade and the flavour hops will dominate even more.

either way you won't notice anything after the 6th one anyway :-)

  • still about 50 slabs at prahran.

    Still $58 up here (NSW).

I bought some recently on the $40 special and thought that was on the money. Wouldn't pay $58 though.

$20 - amazing value. Even beats the recent $25 for 12 longneck Becks!

Longneck Becks is a great band name
