40GB PS3 for $380: Worth it or not?

Hey there,

My friend offered me his old 40GB PS3 model, with his stack of games which are okay along with 2 controllers for a total of $380. It's tempting and I've been thinking about it, but in your eyes would it be worth it?
I'm planning to use it for gaming online with my mates, blu-ray movies and that's pretty much about it.

Is it worth the price or should I just get a brand new PS3? (I don't like the look for the new PS3 mind you haha).

They aren't really new release games or anything, but there are a couple I'd actually enjoy playing: Resistance 2, Fallout 3, NFS Undercover, Prostreet… the rest… not so much, but I guess I could sell them.

He's also chucking in a HDMI cable and another DS3 Controller. I'm just worried I'm getting ripped off here case I just saw a brand new 120GB PS3 with GTPrologue sell for $AU400 on eBay, and quite a lot of people are warning me about the YLOD…'cause it's not under a warranty.

My question would be how much warranty is left ?

if there is no warranty do not buy unless its about half the price of new, games are cheap consoles are not.

Also the newer one is quieter and smaller and uses less power

  • Ah I decided you're right, it really isn't worth the price tag.
But does anyone where to grab a Slim for a bargain price atm?

  • I just sold my ps3 40 gig with one controller and no games on ebay for $250…it was only up for sale for 70mins and someone bought it. Hope that gives you an idea on what they are worth.
