Electric hot water tanks

Need advice on purchasing a electric hot water tank. Limited space means we can only fit a 50L tank and do not have the option of gas or instantaneous hot water.
I've been given varying advice on whether to use enamel or stainless steel. The tank's lifespan is not overly important and longer hot water use is the goal each day.
Is it true stainless steel can heat to higher temperatures and be used with a tempering valve to extend the hot water usage?

I would choose the stainless steel every day.

Enamel are known to crack/get stress fractures if the water gets too hot.

IMO, for a 50 litre tank you're over thinking things. My 135 litre can heat up in about an hour.

  • Hate to be paying your hot water bills for a 50l tank. It'd have to be on demand and will very likely be heating using peak power rates at least some of the time. Are you sure there aren't any other options for a hot water service?

  • Unfortunately no gas supply to the 70's building. 3phase is not practical or cost effective to install for effective instantaneous hot water.
Only my wife and I are in the 1 bedroom unit, both dishwasher and washing machine are self heating, so there's only a shower, two taps and an unused bath to supply.
