What is the best phone under $300

Hello fellow Ozbargainers,

As this is a bargain website and some of us are on the frugal side of the spectrum, I just wanted to know which is the best value for money phone under $300 AU. My requirements are value, durability (2+ years) and brand/operating system are not of great detriment.

Thanks in advance!

Ozbargain's favourite phone, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 price ranges from around $200 - $220 AUD)

Great allrounder specs (Snapdragon 650, 3GB RAM + 32GB storage also expandable via microsd card)

Great battery life (4050 mAh battery)

    • Ozbargain's favourite phone, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3

Is it still? The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Pro is out.

        Yes, still.
As below, the Redmi Note 3 Pro has a Qualcomm SoC which means decent Custom ROM support.
The Mediatek SoC in the Redmi Note 4 Pro will never have any Custom ROM support, cause Mediatek never release their Source Code.
Custom ROM's are excellent for prolonged Software updates.. Manufacturers typically drop software support within 12 months.

        • Custom ROM's are excellent for prolonged Software updates

True, I just wonder how many people actually use custom roms.

  • Bought a LG K10 for the missus

    Actually very pleased with it

    • Android phone with 1GB RAM must be banned in this time. And I must say RN3 Pro is way better than phone you mentioned.

2gb ram running marshmellow And Aus stock
Is a good mid range phone running lower spec 1.14 GHZ octacore
plus through ebay 15% off was low $200 and she had it in hand within a couple of days

        • Not sure if its 2GB. But product specification from link you provided does say that it has 1GB RAM.

        • @pyramid:

yeah those specs are out of whack
Aus version is def 2Gb and it runs smooth but she no gamer

  • Another vote for the Xiaomi Note 3 Pro. Great value and performance. Only slight downside is the camera, but not many phones <$300 are much better in that department.

  • XM Note 3 Pro is the way to go

A lotta phone for the money.

Software ain't exactly the best, but some people might actually prefer it due to it's similarities with IOS.

  • Note 3 Pro will get you best bang for your buck (snapdragon version) and is easy to install custom software on if you don't like the default OS. Moto G3 16/2GB when it's on sale if you need water resistance.

  • +1

Moto G4 Plus, on sale can get it for around $300. Has a way better camera than the Redmi, stock android, local warranty, etc.

  • Asus Zenfone 2 Laser

I own 1 and it was fantastic. Good build quality
