Help with Travel Plans from Melbourne to Dubai, Jordan and Israel

Hi, we are a family of four wanting to travel to Dubai, Jordan and Israel respectively in August of next year. Can anyone please recommend a cost effective flight for these iteneraries? I see one way flights are quite expensive. Are there any other options like an around the world trip for this?

Thanks for your input.

  • A good bet would be to wait for an Emirates sale and then book either Melb to Amman or Melb to Israel. They should allow you to do a stopover in Dubai for free. Then you just need to get from Jordan to Israel and then back to Dubai. The border between Jordan and Israel is very organised, so you could do it overland. Just be prepared for the Israeli border people…..If you thought American customs had no sense of humour and a power complex :\

Jordan is amazing. Hire a car if you can, it makes getting around much easier. Jordanians are pretty good on the roads and it is a small country.

Also, you can ask customs in Israel not to stamp your passport (they stamp a piece of paper and staple it in) as several middle eastern countries will not let you in if you have an Israeli stamp in your passport.

  • Go and see a travel agent.

It won't cost you any more than on-line searches, and can save you grief when you don't know the rules.

They survive because smart people continue to use them.

  • FYI you may have trouble visiting some countries after getting a stamp in Israel and vice versa.
    google is your friend.

  • I suspect it's much cheaper to fly in and out of Jordan and cross into Israel overland. It's not very far. However I'm not so sure of the logistical/passport issues with doing that. But compared to other middle-eastern countries Israel and Jordan are on rather friendly terms.

Don't book a one-way long haul ticket. It will be cheaper to a multi-city booking with Emirates or Etihad. Remember that Abu Dhabi is just down the Road from Dubai, so you can choose either of those airlines.

  • Agree with the above - travel to Jordan via Dubai (Emirates), and rent a car around Jordan. And then go overland to Israel (to Jerusalem). But then it depends where in each country you want to go.

The border crossing Israel/Jordan they will not stamp your passport, they stamp a piece of paper. So no issues with the Arab League, just watch out for identifying names on your luggage (eg a sticker from a hotel).
